Historical information

This dress was worn by Jill A'Vard for her wedding on 19 April 1975 at Monbulk. The dress - a typical style of that period - was made by her sister Chris Britton (nee A'Vard). Chris and Jill grew up on a farm in Emerald in the 1940s - 1960s. Jill has been the graphic designer of several local history books.

Significance

This dress speaks to bridal fashion of that time as well as to a longer tradition of wedding dresses being hand-made.

Physical description

Long dress with a train. Empire line style with a fitted bodice and long sleeves with four buttons at the end of each sleeve. High collar. Dress made of a cream-coloured satin material with a check pattern. Small lace trim around collar and the bottom of the bodice.
