Historical information

Detachable collars became popular around the middle of the 1800s, and were attached to shirts with studs. They could be washed separately to shirts and could be heavily starched which was the fashion of the time. This box could store a number of collars. The item was most probably an accessory from a local menswear shop.

Physical description

Circular lidded wooden box used to store vintage men's collars. The wood grain indicates that the was carved from a log of wood. A large flower with a stem and leaves is carved into the top of the lid.
