James Forsyth's shop was one of the first in Orbost, dating from the 1880s. It was located in the southern section of Nicholson Street, on the eastern side. This building later became Frank and Gladys Matthews shop. The building was demolished in the early 2000s to make way for a Foodworks Supermarket.

Significance

This photograph shows the Forsyth shop which was one of the earliest in Orbost.

Physical description

A b/w photograph of a shop front on a street. Verandah posts at the front, along with a separate hitching rail. Above the front of the building are painted the words JAS FORSYTH, General Storekeeper, Baker and Produce Merchant. Australian Stores. The word BAKERY is written above the entrance. This photo appears to be a copy, not an original photo.
