Physical description

William Pearson was born in 1830 in Wisebeck, Cambridgeshire, England and arrived in Williamstown in 1851. He was elected to the local council in 1864, was Mayor in 1877-78 and retired from council in 1886. He was a Justice of the Peace for many years, a director of the Williamstown Gas Company from its inception and was the owner of the Crown Hotel from 1858, rebuilding it in 1878. He was also a large property owner and died a wealthy man in 1922.

Person Street Williamstown was named in his honour.
