Physical description

Rev. George Wilkinson was a prominent figure in Williamstown, known for his role as the first rector of Holy Trinity Church from 1859 to 1875. He was a native of County Cork and was appointed vicar of the prefabricated iron church imported from England. Wilkinson was recognized for his gentle manner and compassionate character, and he was a strong advocate of total abstinence, which was a significant aspect of his legacy. His memory was honored with the erection of the Wilkinson Memorial Drinking Fountain, located in Commonwealth Reserve, which was funded by public subscription from more than 2,000 residents of Williamstown.
