Councillor Ernest Walter Jackson was elected to the Williamstown Council in December 1937 and served as Mayor of Williamstown during 1945, 1949 and 1957. He was a local funeral director and undertaker based on Ferguson Street, Williamstown. The E.W. Jackson Reserve located at Melbourne Road and John Liston Drive was named in his honour.
