Physical description
Councillor Thomas Briggs was a prominent local civic leader who served two distinct terms as the Mayor of the City of Williamstown during 1932-33 and 1942-43. He enlisted in the Australian Army during the first World War, and had the distinction of being appointed private masseur to the then Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Wm. Hughes. He again offered his services when the second World War broke out, and was appointed in command of a section of the Garrison Guards.
Councillor Briggs sought and found many avenues of public service. He was a special magistrate in the Children’s Court, a member of the R.S.S.A.I.L.A., and was actively associated with the Salvation Army. Councillor Briggs passed away suddenly on July 6, 1949.
