Physical description
1. Map case - WW2 pattern case (Pattern 37). There is a Bakelite backing clipped on it is a clear cellulose cover. There is a canvas (Khaki) cover for it. Under the canvas cover are little slots for pencils, pens, protractors etc. The canvas cover is held shut over the map by means of two press studs.
2. Shoulder strap is from a different vintage. It is 1/2 leather and 1/2 canvas. It is mounted to the map case buckles in an as hoc manner.
Canvas width - 5 cm.
Leather width - 1.6 cm.
Inscriptions & markings
On strap written - "G.H. Simpson 49".
