The double storey Federation Style house is Ardcloney which is in Macedon Street Sunbury. It was built in 1911 and DrWilliam Faulkner, a World War1 veteran, was its owner until his death in 1922. From 1918 - 1922 he was the only doctor practising in Sunbury. From 1922 until 2000 it had a number of owners. In 2000 a developer wanted to purchase the property and build more than 60 houses on the surrounding grounds. As result of local community protest and authorities recognising that the proposed development would result in traffic problems at a major intersection and the heritage significance of the property, the develop[ment did not go ahead. A Day public hospital facility has been erected on the site with the original mansion the administration centre.

Significance

The Federation Style Ardcloney is one of the significant heritage buildings in Sunbury.

Physical description

A non-digital coloured photograph of a view of a double storey Federation home which is behind a timber fence and wrought iron double gates. A For Sale sign is attached to the fence. Two large elm trees are growing on the verge either side of the gates.
