Significance

This book is emblematic of the patriotic spirit felt across Victoria in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in relation to the federation of the Australian colonies.

Physical description

A book produced by the Municipalities of Victoria on the occasion of the inauguration of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. It consists of addresses to the Duke of Cornwall and York (later George V) and the first Governor General. Also contains information about each municipality including date of incorporation, population and signature of the President, Secretary and the other Councillors together with a photo or drawing of the town hall/meeting place of the municipality.
