Machine - Electric Typewriter, Smith-Corona, 1970s

Significance

Smith Corona produced the world's first portable electric typewriter after World War II. This typewriter features a Coronamatic Cartridge which was first introduced in 1973. This self-contained cartridge revolutionized ribbon changes by allowing users to execute a ribbon change without touching any part of the inked ribbon. The typewriter market was to collapse in the 1980s-2000s with the personal computer revolution.
