Historical information

These shoe lasts belonged to the family of Karen Alexander (donator). Her grandparents, Charles Thomas and Alice Mary Alexander owned a farming property in Emerald but lived in Ferntree Gully. Shoe lasts were used for making and repairing shoes and were a common feature in homes in the early and middle twentieth century where they were often used to replace the soles of family members' shoes.

Physical description

Two shoe lasts of different dimensions - each shoe last consists of a 3-size sole working surface - each sole is set at 90 degrees to each other. They are rusted cast iron and would have been used for repairing or replacing the soles of shoes or boots.
