Historical information

The Charman family first settled in the Emerald district in the late 1880's, taking up 199 acres of land in the area that now includes roads named for them and the A'Vard family which was linked by marriage. Jack David Charman is a grandson of David Charman, the origianl settler. In the early 20th century, the farm included a guest house, Brookdale, which was a popular destination for visitors to the area.
Jack David Charman was an Emerald resident during his youth, his family owning a small farm close to the original property in Charman Avenue.
