Significance

This was a symbolic moment in the British Empire's history when George V was crowned following the death of his father. During his reign which spanned World War I the royal house changed its name from the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to the House of Windsor. The coronation of George V and Queen Mary would have been significant for most Australians at that time who would have retained a loyalty to England and the crown.

Physical description

Two medals which commemorate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. On the front side are the conjoined busts of the crowned couple facing left. On the reverse side is the Coat of Arms of the State of Victoria.
