Domestic object - Mincer, Pope Products Ltd, early to mid 20th century

Significance

Hand-operated mincers were common items of domestic equipment up until 1960s. they were used for chopping meat into small pieces. Meat was fed into the funnel at the top of the mixer and would then pass through a hand-cranked screw conveyor that would squash the meat before passing it through the metal plate which would result in stands of meat of varying thicknesses depending on the sizing of the plates. The use of these mincers declined with the availability of powered mincers.
