Historical information

This book of Common Prayer was presented to Ada Watson (born 1882), daughter of Sarah Jane Watson (Stuart) & James Watson at St Hilda's Sunday School in Macclesfield in 1904 when Ada was 12.
Ada married George Furbank Wythes in 1923.
Sarah Jane Stewart was the daughter of William Stuart and Mary Kirkpatrick.
In 1886 James Watson bought 40 acres of what is now Butterfield Wildlife Reserve.

Significance

This book is significant in its link to the Watson family of Macclesfield and and as an example of Church of England services in 1904.

Physical description

Black Leather bound book, 114x75x15mm. A faded, badly damaged black miniature leatherette antique hardcover book, 355Pp gilt edges, but some are missing at the end. On the front cover and the spine is stamped in gold lettering - Common Prayer. At the bottom of the spine is printed in gold: London. Underneath the title on the front are five symbols in a line, possibly fleur de lis. This small leather bound book was presented to Ada Watson by Mr J. Brodriek on St Hilda's Day, 1904 at the St Hilda's Sunday School in Macclesfield, described on a bookplate on the right front end paper.
