Historical information

Bullock teams were used to haul large, heavy loads of wool, timber, household goods, even houses and occasionally people. Often the roads they traversed were unmade. Each team would one or two handlers, known as bullockies.

The importance of the work these animals and their handlers did is known and valued throughout Australia especially in rural and country areas like Emerald. This photograph is a valuable reference of what a bullock team and their handlers may have been like.

Physical description

Black and white rectangular photograph printed on matte photographic paper. The photograph depicts two unnamed males and one unnamed female with two oxen. The two men are wearing Trilby style hats, and the young lady is dressed in leg hugging pants and a white top. Her hair is done in a beehive style. There are two long, thin tree limbs with rope attached being held by one man and one lady. One ox is black in colour, the other is black and white. The yoke that is holding them together can be seen. They each have large horns. In the background are tall trees and a large power pole.
