Significance

The photograph shows two men who are fairly prominent in the local community. The clothes worn by Mr Stephens shows what a butcher in the 1980s-1990s might typically wear.

Physical description

Black and white rectangular photograph printed on paper. This photograph depicts two men standing on the pavement outside a shop. The awning of the shop, which was the local butcher's, is visible above the men. They are standing facing each other and appear to be in conversation.

The man on the left is Bill Stephens, butcher. He is dressed in a shirt and tie covered by a white, short sleeved top and light coloured trousers. He also wears a navy blue and white horizontally striped apron tied on at waist level. On his head is a small, white, cotton brimless hat. His arms are bare from the elbow down.

The other man is Dr Funder, a local G.P. He is shorter than Bill Stephens. He is wearing an open necked shirt, light trousers and a tweed jacket.
The pavement is structured from large flagstones.

In the background, a power pole can be seen and also the supermarket which was on the corner of Monbulk Road and Belgrave-Gembrook Road.
Behind the supermarket, the top of a very large tree can be seen.
