A copy of the Mountain District Free Press from 18 November 1954 documents how a meeting was held on 10 November of the same year to discuss the formation of a tennis club at Emerald, confirming that the Tennis Club has a long history in the town.

Significance

The record holds strong historic significance as it pertains to the Emerald Tennis Club. Sport has long played a prominent role in Emerald as a popular physical and leisurely activity, dating back to the formation of the Emerald Football Club in 1905. Its significance is further supported by excellent provenance; the record was donated to the Emerald Museum by one of the individuals pictured in the photograph.
