Provenance
Collected research and material by the Wandin and District Historical Society
Purpose/Function
This archival collection was created to record the family histories of the first white settler families in Wandin Yallock, and organise these records into family folders easily accessible by family history researchers and the public. The Victorian Collections page contains a limited amount of information on each document: if you are a researcher wanting to find out more, please feel free to reach out to the museum and we will give you further information.
Arrangement
The documents within this collection have been digitised onto a family history database, accessible in person at the Mont de Lancey Library. This database is organised into 1000+ family folders, containing all relevant documents to certain families. They are also all OCR scanned, so a user can instead search a name or type of document into the database, and browse every document related to that name. Every document is tagged with its document type, relevant people (with first, last, and previous family names), date, and location. These digital copies are now being uploaded to Victorian Collections, so as to further increase their accessibility. As well as being accessible digitally, these items are also (largely) available physically, in organised family binders, or, for larger than a4 material, in internal storage.
