Summary of Article: The Maroondah Montessori Early Learning Centre officially opened its new permanent home in East Ringwood. The centre was established in a refurbished building on the site of the former East Ringwood Primary School, with the opening conducted by Maroondah Council commissioner John Nathan. The project involved a $150,000 refurbishment of the former school building, which had been set aside for community use after the remainder of the school grounds was subdivided. John Nathan praised the redevelopment as an excellent example of adapting a former public building for community benefit and noted that council had carefully considered proposed uses for the site. He said the Montessori centre aligned well with the council’s vision of supporting the development of independent, socially and environmentally aware young people. The Maroondah Montessori Early Learning Centre, which had originally opened in Kilsyth in 1987, moved into the former school building after East Ringwood Primary School closed in 1994 and the site was acquired by the former City of Ringwood. The article explains that children at the centre used specially designed equipment and self-directed learning methods across subjects including language, mathematics, art, drama and movement. The accompanying photograph shows Commissioner John Nathan opening the new centre alongside the centre’s vice-president, Angela Lane. (Co-Pilot 7/11/2026)

Summary of Article: Reports on the 25th anniversary of East Heathmont Pre-School, celebrating both its history and the families who have been part of the kindergarten since it opened in 1969. The story highlights former student Sharon Clarke, who attended the pre-school when it first opened and whose son, Shaun, was enrolled there in 1994. It also features another former student, Janine Danaher, whose daughter Melissa was attending the pre-school, illustrating the continuation of family connections across generations. To mark the milestone, East Heathmont Pre-School organised a special 25th anniversary fete at its premises on Pleasant Drive, Heathmont. The celebrations were to include a variety of stalls featuring crafts, cakes, plants, books and face painting. The article emphasises the important role the pre-school had played in the local community over its first quarter-century and the ongoing involvement of past and present students and their families in commemorating its history.
