Melbourne Legacy is dedicated to caring for families of Australian Defence Force veterans who have lost their lives or health serving their country. At a time when all may seem lost, Legacy is there to help a family of individual through the tough times and restore their confidence in the future.

This collection will serve as an archive of items representing the history of the Legacy Club of Melbourne and the services that have been provided to the families of veterans by Melbourne Legacy from its inception to the present time.

From the note on the box it is a tape of the Victorian State Conference in 1967. This recording has not been played.

An audio recording on a clear plastic spool of an Annual Anzac Commemoration Service for Students in 1958 in a cardboard box with the Mastertape logo.

Historical information

Legacy hold an Anzac Commemoration Service for Students every year. For many years it was simultaneously broadcast on the ABC radio stations around the State for students that could not attend. This tape has not been played but presumably from the date it is a recording of the broadcast of the 1959 service.

Significance

A record that the Anzac service for students was of significant importance that it was broadcast on the ABC.

Historical information

Film has not been played. From the paper label it would appear to be a broadcast from the ABC about Kokoda. Produced and aired in 1956. Presumably it was given to or acquired by Legacy to be viewed by Legatees at one of their gatherings.

Significance

A film about an important campaign in World War 2. It may have been shown at a gathering of Legatees such as a Comradeship gathering. Comradeship meetings were very important to the Legatees. Legatees supported each other by coming together for various events throughout the year.

Historical information

The tape has not been played but from the label it is presumed to be a recording of Rolf Harris launching Legacy week in 1972. For many years the main time of year for fundraising is September when Legacy holds 'Legacy Week'. Often there is a celebrity who would launch the appeal so possibly Rolf Harris did this in 1972.

A record that celebrities were part of the Legacy Appeals in the 1970s.
