Uniting Church Archives - Synod of Victoria Malvern East, Victoria

The Archives has extensive material (Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregational and Uniting Church) stored off site and a Reference Library which is on site. The Archives are financed by the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania and staffed by an Archivist and volunteers. The Archives are part of the Uniting Church's national network of archives and linked with UCA Historical Society (VIC) in Lectures and displays. Research is undertaken for a fee.

We have a fairly complete Methodist collection with significant holdings of Congregational and Presbyterian material. We also have a collection of Uniting Church Archives at State and local level.

portable communion set

Brown leather carry case with a brown metal base, a carry handle and two lockable latches on the font. The box has a blue velvet lining. The box holds a paten, diameter 12.0 cm, and a wafer tin which are held in pouches in the lid. Two bottles with cork and silver lids are in fitted compartments inside the box which also contains a small white embroidered cloth. There is embossed gold lettering on the front of the box. The box also holds a letter from the Rev Douglas W Risstrom.

Historical information

The Rev A W Pederick was a chaplain who served in the New Guinea Campaign during WWII. His service included the Kokoda Trail.

Brown leather case with handle and metal locks at front. Blue fabric lining. Three copies of "Order for the Administration of the Lord's Supper", a Wesley College New Testament and Psalms (1947) in fitted slot. Silver salver (12cm diameter) and silver wafer tin (7.5cm diameter) in fitted slots in lid. In body of box: two plain glass bottles with plastic screw tops and two plain corks, a silver goblet (13.5cm high and 7.5cm diameter) and four glass communion tumblers. Small brown bottle with a plastic lid. Includes large white linen communion cloth. Gold lettering on front of set.

This Holy Communion set was for use in hospitals and was brought out from England by the Rev Joseph Albiston in 1863. It is the gift of Miss Mernie Albiston.

Chalmers Free Church was in Harrington Street, Hobart and was demolished in 1955. The burning bush is the emblem of the Church of Scotland. Nec Tamen Consumebatur translates to 'it was not however consumed'.

Tag on cup: "Cup & saucer from Sydney Rd Methodist church used by the Ladies' Guild from ? until 1936 - 38 when each member paid 2/6 - 5/- for a set and the money went to buying a new set. This belonged to Mrs David Phillips".

It took an old prospector 8 days of constant work before the Patrol Padre, accompanied by the Rev. Col. A.T.
