The village Viet Cong guerilla wore a black shirt and trouser - the usual Vietnamese work-dress everybody wore. The perfect camouflage. In a group of people it was impossible to pick the enemy. They all wore the same and looked the same to the western eye. From a distance, a group of people did not necessarily mean mean a cell of viet cong on the move. They could be a bunch of field workers heading for a padi field or a community effort. At night the black pyjamas blended perfectly with very dark surrounds, but on other occasions they were too black. Main force viet cong wore black shirts and grey trousers. This clothing was hard to detect.Black cotton shirt and trousers. Shirt - collarless, 5 buttons, long sleeve. Trousers - draw cord at waist, no pockets , no fly Size M tag. Mt Beauty & District Progress Association was formed when people of the Kiewa works system was to become a rate paying society no longer dependent on the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. 30 community members met on 4th December 1957 to form the new organisation.Mt Beauty and District Progress Association represented, protected and guided the community in arrangements for the future. The Association became more than a Chamber of Commerce. It represented a wide range of interests, a strong voluntary labor force largely responsible for the development of many of the on-going organisations It encompassed and set a strong program for tourism seen as being the security guarantee of the future. The Voluteer Defence Corps decided to have their own book to help people understand the Corps. In it's early years it was raised and maintained by the Return Soldiers League. The original mambers had all served in the late war. The book appeared on the Fourth Anniversary of V.D.C establishment in Australia.TO OUR COMRADES MEN AND WOMEN OF THE FIGHTING SERVICES 'Thesea re the times that try men's souls. Bronze Anniversary of national Service medal and miniature on striped ribbons: central yellow and blue stripes ( Australia's national colours of the era), white, green, and pale blue stripes ( represent Navy, Army Air Force) ochre edge for the soil of Australia. Emblem on front represents the Australian defence forces with the crossed swords of the Army at the forefront. Around the outer edge are the words "ANNIVERSARY OF NATIONAL SERVICE 1951-1972". The reverse side has a stylised cog with the Southern Cross Stars over it to represent the cooperation between the machinery of the armed forces and the people of Australia. These medals were introduced in 2001. Jack Sharpley lived in Erica Av. Tatura. His father was a P.M.G. Linesman c.1939. Jack attended Tatura Convent & Shepparton High School. Joined staff of State Savings Bank, and attended Melbourne University. Entered Air Force in Air Training Corps 1941. Trained in Canada as a Flight Observer. Posted to a Sunderland Flying Boat Squadron in England. Killed 04.02.1943 in a flying accident off the coast of Wales.
