Certificate, Victorian Naturalisation Certificate
Jean-Pierre Trouette was natuarlised in 1862 the year he, his wife Anne (nee Blampied) and her brother Emile purchased land at Great Western and established the Great Western wineries. Unless a person was a Victorian citizen they could not own freehold land and run a business. This certificate testifies to Trouette's legal status and entitlement to establish the Great Western vineyards. At the Intercolonial Exhibition in Melbourne in 1866 his wines were noticed and was noted also in 1867. His vineyard was named St Peter's and visitors included Hubert de Castella in 1882. blampied, trouette, great western, st peter's, intercolonial exhibition, naturalisation, henry barkly -

Document, Prospectus (Leahy’s Electrical), 1951
This is the 1951 prospectus of the new company known as Leahy’s Electrical Industries Limited and formed from the previous business of Jim Leahy, Electrical Engineer. The business was then and remains today at 82 Fairy Street, Warrnambool . The business of Jim Leahy had been operated in conjunction with Leahy’s Hire Cars and commenced in 1946. This was initially a good business with 25 employees but the building stock and plant were destroyed by fire in 1950 with the business continuing on a limited scale until the new company in 1951 was formed. Jim Leahy purchased the freehold at the corner of Liebig and Koroit Streets and the business prospered from there but today it is based back in Fairy StreetThis prospectus is of some significance as it signals the start of the important business in Warrnambool today of Leahy’s Electrical. The prospectus shows that the original directors were Leahy, Dwyer, Walter, Croft, White and Affleck and they were prominent Warrnambool and district people at that time. This prospectus also has a good summary of the history of the Leahy business up to 1951 and the financial statements etc are of considerable importance to researchers and other readers. This is a typed prospectus of six pages printed back to back and with a buff-coloured cover of lightweight card. The printing on the cover is dark blue. In 1844 a carpenter called David McLaws secured the lease on the land on the south west corner of James and Bank Streets. He later converted this to freehold by which time he had erected the Caledonian Inn. This building has been continually licensed since that time , and is believed to be the longest continual license held in Victoria. The dormer windows in the part of the building facing James street hide the fact that there is only a skeleton of rooms that were meant to be built there. They were unfinished because the labourers left town when gold was discovered at Ballarat in 1853. This ledger relates to the property Kenilworth which is situated near Cavendish, 16 miles from Hamilton on the Wannon River. It was taken up by Thomas Norris in 1839 and originally carried 800 cattle and 20000 sheep on 63000 acres. By 1858 it was in the hands of John Mackersey and Thomas Bostock. In 1859 it belonged outright to John Mackersey who was there until 1870. He was considered a worthy son of a Presbyterian minister and was well regarded in the district for his contributions in church, sport and sheep breeding... However he did not do well and lost the property before going to New Zealand in 1870. These journals provide a yearly record of flock, harvest and yields along with income details. It also provides details relating to rentals, selections and purchases during the era from squatting to freehold land. This journal provides a detailed view of matters relating to the business of sheep farming. It records purchases and stock sold, wool clips, lambs, sheep losses and different breeds. Kenilworth was a significant property in the Western District of Victoria and it dates from a period of early settlement in Victoria.Dark green hard cover with gold lettering.
