Photographic Postcards were very popular in the early 20th century and this shows the Campaspe river, Echuca in flood. The high water mark is exemplified by having the rower on the water. It was later moved to its present position on the Princes Highway opposite Hoyle Street. This journal provides the reader with glimpses of the adventures and hardships of a seaman's life. Many of the stories are of sailing ships. PS Etona was built in 1898 at Milang, South Australia as a missionary church steamer for the Church of England. The Etona's run was from Mannum, South Australia, where she was based up to Renmark. As churches were built in river tower she was no longer required and in 1912 she was sold to Captain Arch Conner who used her as a fishing steamer at Boundary Bend for many years. She was brought out of retirement during the 1956 floods to do trips up the Murrumbidgee River. She was eventually bought by interest in Echuca and restoration was commenced in 1962. The Etona, now fully restored with her original steam engine can now be seen moored along side the historic wharf at Echuca.Contributes to our knowledge of the importance of shipping and places on record those stories of the sea which would otherwise be lost.Contents Foreword - G. Belonged to the Melbourne Harbour Trust Commissionersarge, wooden, rectangular "Roll of Honour" board for the Melbourne Harbour Trust Commissioners. It was their honourary board for employees who went to the 1st World War. comprised of seven panels with names of people carved into them. The centre panel has "in Memorium' in brass lettering and is raised out from the three panels which flank it on either side. The main lettering across the top of the board is made from brass, and is attached to the wood. A circular brass crest is featured in the centre top of the board, which is flanked by carved gum leaves and nuts. Built by J D McHaffie as a Shepherd's Hut in the 1850 - 60s. At one stage called Julyan's Cottage. Finlay Julyan born there, owned by various families. At one time by H Grayden and R McKinley. Privately owned now. (Noted on the caption that it was built by John Evans about 1870??)Small wooden building on corner of Lyall Street and Ventnor Beach Road.
