This is a one pint general purpose enamel jug. Dr Mitchell Henry O'Sullivan worked in the Victorian country town of Casterton as a general practitioner from 1919 until his death in 1977. He also practiced obstetrics. His son, Dr David More O'Sullivan donated his obstetric bag and its contents to the College in 1999. The bag and contents are a unique time capsule of the type of instruments and pharmaceuticals used in the inter-war period.Cream coloured jug, made of enamelled metal with a blue rim. This is a souvenir jug made for the local tourist trade in the 1960s. The jug has an image of Lady Bay, Warrnambool. The official name of Lady Bay is Warrnambool Bay. The jug was made by Westminster Fine China Australia, a firm established in 1954 by the cutlery and silverware firm of Stanley Rogers and Sons of Melbourne. Westminster China was fist established in Cheltenham in Melbourne and after 1977 it was operating in Sandringham, Victoria. It was still operating in the 1990s and produced mainly souvenir and giftware. This jug is retained because it is a good example of the souvenir items offered to local tourists in the 1960s. This is a small white china jug with a gold strip down the handle and a gold rim around the opening and the lip. On the side of the jug is a multi-coloured image of the lower lighthouse and Lady Bay, Warrnambool. This is a bathroom jug and could have been part of a set for bathroom use. It would have held mainly water, hot or cold. This metal ink jug or can, was used to dispense portions of ink to individual inkwells contained on the top of each pupil's desk. The jug is not unlike a small indoor watering can. The ink would be supplied to schools in large glass or stoneware bottles, and these would have been too unwieldy and difficult to use to pour ink into the small inkwells. Therefore it was decanted into the metal ink jugs and then poured into the inkwells. After a child was deemed old enough to progress from just using slate and board, he/she would have been supplied with a pen shaft made of wood and with a very basic metal nib. The ink jug would be used to fill up the individual inkwells. The jug and cup were purchased from a second - hand shop in Bairnsdale. Jug is older than cup as the chalet is represented as a single storey structure. The cup is later as the second storey appears in the illustration. 'Souvenirs in relation to the Chalet and Mount Buffalo wee first mention in December 1912... A large range of souvenirs has since been associated with the Chalet and Mount Buffalo from crafted wooden items, silver spoons, cups etc... This jug was presented as a trophy to the Newmerella football team in 1909. The jug was donated by Carl Dreverman & Co. Carl Dreverman & Co. was an Ironmongers in Nicholson Street, Orbost. Established in 1900 at first as Dreverman and Reynolds, Carl Dreverman took over the store which still exists today in Orbost as Orbost Hardware. The official Newmerella Football Club was probably started in 1913. Simon Gargan was the founder of the Newmerella Football Club.Prior to that teams played socially. This cup was presented to the Newmerella team which defeated an Orbost team.Football clubs in Orbost and district, through their many changes, have always been an important social fabric of the community.
