This is Vol. 4 of the Moorabbin Mirror produced by CMHS members Fran & Holger Bader , Valma Sharp November 2015 The Moorabbin Mirror reflects the history and heritage of the former City of Moorabbin - derived from Mooroobin, ' a resting place' in the Bunurrung spoken language. In 1994 the City of Moorabbin was integrated into the Cities of Bayside, Glen Eira, Kingston and Monash. Members are asked to assist GECC Arts & Culture Dept. with information about the Caulfield Repatriation Hospital. Fran compiled a brief history of the 'Garden Suburb of Ormond, Henry Lawson and ANA Society with a contribution from Rosemary Kelleher describing her father Brian's love of poetry. All members are invited to attend the final Open day on November 29th to join with the Henry Lawson Society and ANA for their Annual Brian Kelleher Memorial Picnic . Photographs of the CMHS at Bunnings, Stanley's Menswear and the 'Unmentionables' display at Box Cottage are included in this issue. The CMHS thanks the retiring President Frank Thatcher and Treasurer Bill Richardson for their work for the Society and welcomes the incoming Committee lead by Mrs Valma Sharp President. The Orchestral Society of the Young Men's Christian Association exists for the uplift of Bendigo through the agency of music. In addition to this it dedicates the whole of its profits to the extension of Christ's work among Boys. Surely this two-fold object is sufficient to warrant a large number of subscribers, and yet we regret to say we find it increasingly difficult to finance the Society, and our Association, in one to the greatest provincial cities in Australia. We would like to think that it is only sufficient to mention this matter in order to call for an immediate demand for subscribers tickets for our Orchestral Society; in order to remove the 'Damoclesian sword' of finance which perpetually suspended above our heads, and thereby insure a continuance of our Orchestral Society, and the permanence of out Association, which is in business for the men and boys of this fair City. This 1868 letter was kept by unknown persons until 100 years later, it was then forwarded to Holy Trinity Secretary F.A.W. ('Skip') SHORT. The persons not signed but listed at closing of the letter were all prominent citizens including various Councillors. A copy of letter in The Age, 16 May 1868, p1 lists 27 parishioners (giving better identification of the people ie first names or initials) plus 73 others. In both the handwritten letter and the printed copy in The Age the names CURTISS and Henry Chas. CURTISS are listed. While this could be the correct spelling we have used Henry Charles CURTIS which is the much more common reference to him in newspapers. He was a surgeon and Sandridge Councillor (8 Aug 1867 - 4 Feb 1873).Small handwritten letter to the vicar of Holy Trinity Rev F.C.
