"A limited number of Centenary Medallions designed by Mr. V. Greenhalgh were produced by Stokes & Son, Melbourne to commemorate the Centenary of the School. The medallion was produced from copper base metal with a silver oxide finish and has been well received by past student, present students, staff members and the general public. The card enabled a person to attend the 'Popular Science Lectures' which were held in the lecture hall of the school. These were the Winter course of 1882. The Lectures were from 8p.m. They ran from June 9 through to October 11. The subjects were varied and a guest speaker was responsible for each session. The School of Mines in Ballarat decided to offer classes to teachers in State School. These areas were listed and the instructor named. Railway tickets were available from the school. It was hoped the this would enable these teachers to be awarded a "Science Certificate" through the Education Department if they succeeded.
