The Eureka Flag hanging in the Old Colonists' Hall is an exact replica of the Eureka Flag that flew over the Eureka Stockade. It was copied from the original flag that was in the possession of the Art Gallery of Ballarat. Exact measurements were taken from the flag and the replica made by the Ballarat firm George Lemke and Co. It was decided to made the replica because of the fragile condition of the original flag. At the time the original flag was beyond being displayed and it was felt steps should be taken to obtain a copy before it deteriorated further. The table and chairs once belonged to the Officers' Mess, 24th Battalion. From 1928 - 1936 the CO 24th Battallion was Lt Col S.G. Savige, DSO MC. It was during this time that the chairs were made and used for dining-in nights. During the a ceremony of remembrance, each officer stood behind his chair and called the name on its back as a mark of respect for those KIA during WW1. At the inaugural meeting of the Club, from which arose Melbourne Legacy in September 1923, eight of the fourteen members had worn the colour patch of 24th Battalion.The connection to Savige and the fact that many of his officers from 24th Battalion became members of Melbourne Legacy. This table and its chairs were formally gifted to Melbourne Legacy on 9th May 1956 when the Club moved to Legacy House. They have been used since in the Club's Board Room, now located on level 1, Legacy House, 293 Swanston Street, Melbourne. Two Legatees were responsible for fully refurbishing the table and chairs - Legatee Gordon Beith (Morrabbin Branch) and Legatee Ted McKenzie (Footscray/Sunshine Branch) Board Room Table - Clear varnished timber table with a two piece glass top Table legs are turned timber on wheels x 5. Undated list of personally owned furnishings at Holmbush found in a file next to letters dated 1943. The piano, musical cabinet, card tables, fire fender and fire irons, wireless, and kerosene refrigerator give an indication of how homes were furnished at the time. Mr Bert Frank was appointed to the role of manager of the Legacy Club Hostel in March 1943 (see 00355.1) and details of his application for the role is also in the archive at 00351. As were the times the wife of the successful applicant was automatically assumed to be working as well but without the acknowledgement of a hired position. As it was a live-in position perhaps this list recorded their personal contents to avoid disputes later on. Advises that a formal notice by the Minister for Electrical Undertakings Mr. Reid was tabled the previous day after the SEC served the notice upon the Minister. At the time of the report, no date had been advised. The article reports that the Council will consider the matter at its meeting of the following Monday night.
