R.A.M.C. = Royal Army Medical Corps - British. Uniform issued to Captain McKenzie. refer Cat No. 7875.5 and 7876.2.1. Jacket - black and crimson colour wool velvet type fabric. Crimson colour fabric on collar and sleeve cuffs with gold braid edging. Mandarin collar with two gold and silver metal collar badges - crown, snake on pole, laurel wreath and ribbon scroll with lettering - "ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS" - British - Tailor made uniform. Shoulder epaulettes - gold colour twisted braid with two gold, blue and green metal rank pips = Lieutenant. on right epaulette. Gold colour metal buttons with shank, raised emblem and lettering - (same as collar badges). Lining - combination top gold colour, lower black colour silk fabric. Sleeve - white colour cotton fabric. Crimson colour fabric on rolled collar and sleeve cuffs. On collar are two gold and silver metal collar badges - crown, snake on pole, laurel wreath and ribbon scroll with lettering "ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS" British - Tailor made. Shoulder epaulettes - fabric with three tarnished gold, blue and green metal rank pips = Captain. Gold colour buttons with shank, raised emblem and lettering (same as collar badges). Lining - crimson colour body of jacket with concealed internal pocket. Sleeves - white colour cotton fabric. Manufacturers label on white colour cotton fabric, back, inside collar. 2. Jacket collar, with two lapel badges, gold and silver crown and shield with cannons and lettering. "ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS" shoulder epaulettes with silver and red metal crown rank insignia = MAJOR. Four front pockets. Two top patch pockets with button and two metal press studs on flap. Green and yellow service Ribbon above left pocket. Two lower inset pockets with button down flap. Two metal belt keepers insitu. 1. Folded cardboard card. On the front is embossed, A Gold Rising Sun Badge". A sprig of flowers/leaves and underneath a paragraph stating - One King, One Flag, One Empire. It shows a crown and the Red Ensign. Inside is a slip of paper with the addressee and a little poem from the trenches. Pte T. McOrmond 2938 Christmas 1917. It has a decorative cord around the spine. 2. This is a brown envelope with the printed stamp of Australian YMCA on the top left corner. Written across the top is "On Active Service Abroad". Right hand corner has a round stamp "AIF CAMP P.O. 18 Feb 18". Badge - BADGE, 38th BATTALION ASSOCIATION
The 38th Bn 1st AIF was raised in Bendigo in March 1916. The Battalion served in WW2 (although not going overseas) until finally being disbanded in 1962. An assoociation of Ex Members was formed after WW1.This is a small oval badge, colours - gold lettering set on a background of dark blue over red half ovals.
