The Australian Service Medal 1939-1945 was awarded to armed Australian forces and volunteer defence corps for their service during WWII. Created by King Geroge IV, this was the first distinctive Australian medal in the British system of honours and awards.Medallion attached to a navy blue, light blue, red and beige striped ribbon. The medallion depicts an effigy of King George IV of Great Britain and the commonwealth with the words: "GEORGE IV S VI (obscured component) G. BR. OMN. REX ET INDIAE IMP" in relief on one side. VX 42774 Captain H G (Bob) Fyffe, a grazier from Tocumwal, NSW, served with the Tocumwal troop of the 20th Light Horse prior to WWII (1939-46). He enlisted at the outbreak of war and served with the 9th Division Cavalry Regiment in North Africa. During the attack on Trig 22 on 17 July 1942 Captain Fyffe commanding a composite squadron manoeuvred his tanks to knock out machine guns and anti-tank guns enabling 2/32 Battalion to capture the objective. Captain Fyffe was awarded the Military Cross for his leadership and courage in the action. This was 9th Division Cavalry's first tank action of the war. Documents the history of the Shrine by interspersing images of war with returned servicemen's marches. The film shows archival images of Australia in 1914 and accounts from WWI, which gave rise to the campaign to build the Shrine in the 1920s. Gen.Sir John Monash, after consulting with Legacy, lent his support and it was opened in 1934 by the Duke of Gloucester, becoming the focus of commemoration in Victoria. The forecourt with the Eternal Flame was added in 1954 to commemorate the fallen of WWII and was dedicated by Queen Elizabeth II. Junior Legatees are shown paying their respects at one of their annual commemorations. This film has been digitised to preserve its content. Set of 12 colour views of Geelong on a folded strip, glued within a colour printed cover, titled "A Souvenir of Geelong", printed on both sides of the strip. Booklet printed with an address area on rear. Produced by Nulcolorvue Productions, Mentone, Victoria. The rear has a slit on the rear cover that allowed the folder to be secured. On the inside of the front cover, has an introduction to Geelong, notes "modern tram and bus routes" Pictures are: 1. Gheringhap St showing Geelong City Hall and Post Office 2. From notes provided by David O'Neil, 12/2003, advises that bus driver is either Bill Hamaling or Charles Stafford. Gentlemen next to No. 8 could be Vic Phipps. Has the Bank of New South Wales building in the background. Also a set of "Bar traffic lights" and signs indicating the safety zone at the tram stops on either side of the road are shown in the photo. The signs could be taken away from the stops when necessary. The tram has the destination of Newtown Photo taken after 1953. Dave O'Neil's notes that the tram has terminated in the city instead of through routing to Eastern Park and was about to reverse to run to Newtown - an unusual working.
