In July 2013 Smeaton resident Ron Cosgrave offered to attempt to find Laura Villa. He wrote on 12/07/2013 "I have attached three photographs of Laura Villa as it is today. I am 100 % that it is the house in question. The changes are the veranda and numerous alterations and attachments. The key identifiers are the original roof line, the chimney, the trees and the background of the photo is the other side of Birch’s Creek with similar trees and the hill is Green Hill. Paramount Concrete Works tower on the site of Burnbank 1 – Cottage of Henri and Ann nee Dowling Myers side of road east of Myers Gully the junction of Reserve Rd. now known as Ryans Creek. Built c 1870. it remained in the family until a demolition order was placed on it in 1969 when vacated by Martha wife of Frederick 4th son of Ann and Henry. Pru Sanderson, in her groundbreaking ‘City of Kew Urban Conservation Study : Volume 2 - Development History’ (1988), summarised the periods of urban development and subdivisions of land in Kew. The periods that she identified included 1845-1880, 1880-1893, 1893-1921, 1921-1933, 1933-1943, and Post-War Development. These periods were selected as they represented periods of rapid growth or decline in urban development. An obvious starting point for Sanderson’s groupings involved population growth and the associated economic cycles. These cycles also highlighted urban expansion onto land that was predominantly rural, although in other cases it represented the decline and breakup of large estates. A number of the plans in the Kew Historical Society’s collection can also be found in other collections, such as those of the State Library of Victoria and the Boroondara Library Service. A number are however unique to the collection.Subdivision plans are historically important documents used as evidence of the growth of suburbs in Australia. They frequently provide information about when the land was sold on which a built structure was subsequently constructed as well as evidence relating to surveyors and real estate and financial agents. The numerous subdivision plans in the Kew Historical Society's collection represent working documents, ranging from the initial sketches made in planning a subdivision to printed plans on which auctioneers or agents listed the prices for which individual lots were sold. In a number of cases, the reverse of a subdivision plan in the collection includes a photograph of a house that was also for sale by the agent. These photographs provide significant heritage information relating house design and decoration, fencing and household gardens.The Macartney Estate subdivision advertised 21 lots for sale on either side of Macartney Street (now Macartney Avenue) and Evans Road in what was then designated as East Kew. Most of the houses shown on the south side of Macartney Street then, as now, have rear entrances on Mount Street, however a number of these blocks have since been further subdivided to allow for the building of new houses on the rear of a block. Black and white photograph of Coach and Horses Hotel in Maroondah Highway, west of New Street, now adjacent to Eastlink Freeway, on northern side. There are two duplicate photos. Certainly the photo was taken post-1940 as the previous Coach & Horses Hotel, on the south side, burnt down in 1940. The telephone pole indicates that era, with limited lines. The style of the building was Art Deco that generally existed in the 1920s-1930s but did continued in Australia in the 1940s. The building has the appearance of being newly-built. Was H4, in the old cataloguing system.

Fashion by Oggi, as the sign above the door proclaimed, was located at the Paris End of Collins Street, on the south side, virtually opposite Lilian Weightman’s Le Louvre boutique. Janet Brock, who at the time was working in the Central Business District of Melbourne, had stopped to admire a mauve version of the dress that was displayed in the window, and, on making inquiries from the proprietress, ordered a made-to-measure cream-coloured copy. Her marriage occurred shortly after the death of her father, and took place on 18 December 1971 at the Kew Presbyterian Church in Cotham Road, where the Rev. Peter Mackie was the celebrant. The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories.Wedding dress, purchased by Janet Elizabeth Brock in December 1971 from Oggi of Collins Street. The wedding dress, reaching just below the knee, is lined in silk with a double outer layer of organza. The striking decoration of the monochromatic cream dress is achieved through the use of wide ruffled organza frills at the neck, on the sleeves and at the flared hem of the dress. The dress has a discrete v-neckline with small, self-covered buttons at centre front. At the back, the dress is closed with a nylon zip.
