It is the policy of the Government that most of the State's alpine area will be proclaimed as an Alpine National Park, which would complement the Kosciusko National Park in N.S.W.. This is yet to be achieved (1987), however there is a need for sound, efficient and coordinated management based on the area's natural features, values and uses. Private William James Richardson was a driver in the 4th Artillery Brigade. He enlisted on 16/07/1915 and embarked for Europe on 18/11/1915. He returned and married Elsie Park in 1938. The students from Bulla Primary School were taken on a nature excursion to a nearby nature park as part of their scientific and environmental studies. They were studying the number and types of insects that could be found in the plants and water in the area. The park ranger then asked them to identify any insects on the chart that they found. This photograph shows spectators watching the Orbost Races on the flat in 1899. Some of the earliest horse races were held on a course in a paddock belonging to Mr James Cowell at Jarrahmond. For a long time horse races were part of the Marlo Picnic Races.
