Certificate, Junior Legacy Club
A Junior Legacy Certificate presented to Jacobina Bristol on 12 July 1940. The text says 'During the Great War many men offered themselves for Service in the Forces of the Empire. To assist the children of those who fell, or who have died since, the Melbourne Legacy Club was formed. The Children of deceased sailors and soldiers constitute the Junior Legacy Club.' The certificate was donated back to Legacy from the family of Marjorie and Jacobina (Jackie) Bristol, sisters who were both junior legatees in the 1930s and 1940s after their father passed away, he was a World War 1 veteran. Jacobina later became Jackie Wood and passed away in April 2020. Marjorie became Marjorie Bachmann and passed away in 1986. Also donated were a photo of the girls at calisthenics classes, a girls green tunic uniform, a souvenir handkerchief from the 90th anniversary celebrations and a $100 Legacy badge. These are catalogued separately at 01948 to 01952.An example of the formality surrounding enrolment into Junior Legacy.Buff colour Junior Legacy membership certificate with black printing.Typed 'Jacobina Bristol' and '24.6.1938' and signed in black ink by James G Gillespie who was Legacy President in 1938.junior legatee, girls' classes, jlc -

Book, Pacific flight, 1935
This book has been part of a library that had been set up by the radio station 3YB in Warrnambool. This station was founded in 1936 from a Mobile Radio Station formed by Jack Young of Ballarat (hence the letter, YB). 3YB sponsored a Boys’ Club in the late 1930s and 1940s and a library for the boys was part of this sponsorship. This book is of minor interest because it was part of the library connected to the Everyboys Club established in the late 1930s by the Warrnamboool Radio Station 3YB. The subject matter of the book, an account of the aviation exploits in the South Pacific region of the well-known aviator, P. G. Taylor, would have appealed to young boys at that time. This is a hard cover book of 262 pages. The cover is blue but the colour on the spine has faded to a brown shade. There is some black lettering on the spine and also a small library sticker with the number ‘31’ on it. The book has outline maps on the inside of both covers, a Foreword, a Contents page, a List of Illustrations, fifteen Chapters of Text and an Epilogue. There are many black and white photographs and illustrations scattered throughout the text. The first two pages contain several date stamps from a library and two stamps of the Everyboys Club, 3YB. ‘Everyboys Club, 3YB’ ‘31’ radio station 3yb warrnambool, everyboys club, history of warrnambool -

Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. The collections include manuscripts, pictures, trophies, plans, honour boards etc. The combined collections of the four sporting clubs making up the collection number hundreds of items that are historically significant locally. They are also significant to the sporting history of the greater Melbourne area and to the sports of lawn bowls and tennis in Australia in the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection illuminates two of the Victorian historic themes - 'Building community life' through forming community organisations and 'Shaping cultural and creative life' by participating in sport and recreation.Framed and glazed colour photograph of the Kew Ladies Bowling Club team which won the VLBA Division B1 pennant in 1987-8See team listkew bowling club, kew ladies bowling club -

Map - Object, Brailled Map of Europe, 1939
This tactile map of Europe was created in 1939, and brailled by the Queensland Braille Map and Model Club. Cut and mounted by G. Vann with geographical inforamtion provided by Miss E Southern. The Queensland Braille Map and Model Club was a volunteer organisation which produced tactile maps from the 1920s to the late 1940s. These were sent as presents to schools, organisations and missions for people who were blind or vision impaired around Australia, New Zealand, Syria, India, Canada, Papua New Guinea and Africa. Due to free postage of Braille obtained by Tilly Aston and her compatriots, the maps were transported gratis within Australia and at a cheap rate overseas. When this map was made, East Prussia, Danzig and the Levant States were all separate countries. Some information about each country (name, area in sq miles and population) is written on a small door on the right hand side, which can be opened to reveal the same information in Braille. At the base is a braille and handwritten note "Information about maps gratis from Miss E Southern "Kingsley" George St, Brisbane. "For lending to the Blind" is written at the base of the wooden frame.1 paper attached to wooden mount with metal labels, on the right hand side a small door with country information on the front and opens to reveal the same in Braille. queensland braille map and model club, r.f. tunley -
