Obtained from grounds of former Temperance Hall, Nott and Liardet Streets. Found when renovations/extensions were being made by PMCC in 1990. A school reader used in Grade 3 throughout Victorian schools from 1954 until the late 1970sA bound book with a cloth cover decorated on the front, spine and back covers with a drawing in purple and grey of two girls and a boy carrying cases or satchels and walking to school. The title 'Third Book Among Friends' is in grey on a purple background and the publisher's name is written across the bottom of the front cover in the same colour combination. Sanax First Aid Ambulance Case
This First Aid Case was used which was used at the the former Carnegie Senior Citizens' Centre. The centre was located at 314 Neerim Road, Carnegie. When the Neerim Road facility closed, its activities were moved to the Carnegie Library and Community Centre. Cream metal first aid case. Case is hinged on the long side, and has a handle and latch on the side opposite the hinge. Blue, gold, red and cream "Sanax First Aid Ambulance Case" label on lid featuring cross icon and flaming torch icon. Cream enamel paint has been painted over the exterior of the case, minor areas of overlap on label. Interior of case is split into three sections. Two narrow brackets on interior of lid to hold pen sized items. One rectangular bracket on interior of lid to hold paper or card. Two round mounting brackets on top edge of case. Contents include five glass medicine bottles, plastic tablet container, metal tweezers, two pairs medical scissors, glass eye dropper, brass thumbtacks, cardboard instruction booklet, rubber tourniquet. The Waterfront tramway opened in 1982 using three ex Melbourne trams. This book is a first edition of the Council-sponsored official history of Warrnambool. It was written by the professional historian, C.E. Sayers. He had access at the time to the notes, photographs, radio talks and other writings of the former Warrnambool Town Clerk and noted historian, Henri Worland. This book is of great importance as the chief comprehensive historical work published about Warrnambool since Vidler’s ‘Warrnambool Past and Present’ published in 1907. Even though a second edition of this book was published in 1987 this edition is still very important as it contains several photographs and some textual references not included in the later book. This edition is therefore still useful today and copies of it are not easy to find now. This is a hard cover book of 190 pages. The cover has a photograph in sepia tones of men road-making with the same photograph back and front. This has a cream background with red and black lettering and a coloured image of the Warrnambool City crest on the front. An early map of the Warrnambool township has been reproduced on the inside of the cover, back and front. There is a Mary Bell on the school register who enrolled at Ballarat College (Girls School) in 1888. Birthday 2 March 1875 aged 13 years and 10 months. Father Alex bell. It is possible the book was donated to the Weatherly Library by this former old collegian. The Weatherly Library was opened in 1936 and its collection significantly established by donation or bequest of old collegians and community members or associates. In May 1917 William Gruner, a soldier, was with a group of people drinking at the Prince of Wales hotel in Richmond. After the group left the hotel, Gruner returned and stabbed the licensee, Robert Walker, with a military service knife. Walker was a former policeman. The site of H A ("Herbie") Sherriff's business, Emerald Motors, was a former blacksmith's shop on the corner of Main Road and Kilvington Road. The sign over the shop bears the word "PLUME": This was a "motor spirit" (fuel) produced by Standard Oils and sold in Australia 1916-1954.The signage and the two cars visible (one late model and one early) establish the time the photograph was taken. Correspondence, Letter from Lance Matthews concerning the Snowy Mountains Scheme, 1958, 25/11/1958
Lance Matthews was a former student of the Ballarat School of Mines. Dick Richards was the Principal Construction of the Snowy Scheme was managed by the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Authority, it officially began on 17 October 1949 and took 25 years, officially completed on 21 October 1972.A letter comprising of three handwritten pages discussing experiences of work with the Snowy River Authority by Lance Mattews. The letter was written to Richard W. Richards, Principal of the Ballarat School of Mines. A forth page is a response to the letter by Dick Richards. In the letter Matthew relates that he is living at Cooma in the East Camp, and compares the living condition to an army camp. Matthew was working for contractors, Kaiser Walsh, at the Base Plant Pool at Polo Flat about 2 miles out of Cooma. He was involved in a two week tour (inventory) of the Snowy River Scheme and saw most part of the project including Adaminaby Dam, Tunnel Pond, T1 power station and the sites and initial stages of Tooma Reservoir, Lobs Hole Reservoir, Jindabyne Reservoir and several access tunnels..dick richards, lance matthews
