In 1925 there was a group known as the White Flat Improvement Committee. The White Flat Sports Reserve was officially opened on 18 March 1925 at which time Sir Alexander Peacock said that 'a wonderful change had been brought about at White Flat , and those who had brought it about would have the gratification of knowing that they were providing inestimable pleasure for the children and young people.' In 1934 the grandstand was moved to White Flat from the defunct Buninyong Racing Club. Albert Edward (Sonny) Mark was a foundation member of the Golden Point Cricket Club in 1910/1911 and part of the first Premiership side. He was a prominent A grade player and committee member for many years, including being Treasurer of the Club from at least 1933/34 to 1938/39. He acted as Golden Point delegate to the Ballarat District Cricket Association from 1934 to 1938. Sonny served as a Member of the White Flat committee from 1932/1933 to 1948/1949. Every year from the year 1933 until the Club went into recess in 1942 he took the chair for the election of President at annual meetings, an honour now reserved for Life Members. The B.D.C.A. B Grade shield named in Sonny Mark's honour for his contribution to the Golden Point Cricket Club and also to Ballarat cricket . He was instrumental in having the Grandstand at White Flat constructed and it was named in his honour. White Flat was an early gold diggings. As early as 1856 the White Flat Drainage and Mining Co. constructed water races, drained the swampy land, and changed the course of the Yarrowee Creek. This may be remnants of that work. Fabrizio Crippa of Monza, Italy built a double storey villa in 1864 on the Main Road in Hepburn Springs. The surrounding land was planted with vines and fruit trees. Wanda Inn was a highly regarded tea room during the 1920s and 1930s, when many people traveled to Hepburn Springs for their Honeymoon. It was destroyed by fire, along with Bellinzona Guest House, in November 2003. It was the second time Bellinzona had been destroyed by fire, the first time was in 1906 when a fire wiped out most of the township of Hepburn Springs.A colour digital image showing a picket fence, and a house in the background. Samuel Johnson is riding around Australia on a unicycle in an attempt to break a world record and raise money for the Garvan Institute (breakthrough medical research) . Opening in 1891 the Moonta School of Mines was intended for students who wanted to increase their knowledge of those arts and sciences which were especially important to miners and others similarly engaged. The School was situated close to the Moonta Mines, at that time the most important copper mines in Australia, and the smelters at Wallaroo. The the mines students were able to acquire practical knowledge of the work of a miner. The close by smelting works at Wallaroo were seen to be of great service to those wanting to become acquainted with chemistry and metallurgy. Subjects taught at the Moonta School of Mines included Chemistry, Metallurgy, Steam and the Steam Engine, Magnetism and Electricity, Mathematics, Machine Design, Mine Surveying and Leveling, Drawing, Plumbing and Sheet Metal Work. Redruth Gaol was constructed in 1856. It was the first South Australian gaol to be built outside Adelaide. The goal was built to house 30 prisoners (male and female). It closed in 1897 at which time the prisoners were transferred to Gladstone Gaol. The former Redruth Gaol was renovated and started a new life as a Girls' Reformatory in 1897 and closed in 1922. "ARARAT WAR MEMORIAL.- Remarkable simplicity and beauty are combined in the Ararat war memorial, which will be unveiled by Senator H.E. Elliott to-morrow. The monument is a simple rectangular stone mass, 12ft in length, 6ft in width, and 18ft m height, standing on a bluestone platform of three steps in the centre of a formal garden Surrounding the memorial is a bronze frieze, conceived from the classic frieze of the Parthenon in Athens depicting incidents in Australian engagements overseas. The frieze took the sculptor (Mr Wallace Anderson) two years to complete. The memorial was designed and supervised by Mr A.S. Hall. Photographs of the memorial are included in the collection at the architectural exhibition it the Town Hall." Stawell was known as a gold mining town. The Stawell Town Hall clock and tower were erected by Mrs Norman Kelly in memory of her late father Cr George Barnes, a councillor of the Borough of Stawell over a period of 47 years, and also her mother, the late Emma Barnes. 10 May 1939. The animated mining scene on the Stawell Town Hall was incorporated into the tower from a bequest by Emma Kelly.
