It was donated to the Wodonga Historical Society by Fred Rochow, a railwayman who spent many years based in Wodonga. He joined the Victorian Railways on 17th June l947 and retired in 1988. Sign - Falls Creek Ski Patrol
The first ski patroller in Falls Creek was Brian Caddy with two casual ski patrollers Rob Sarroff and David Crooke in the 1960s. In 1972 the “official” Falls Creek Ski Patrol was created under the advisement of Dr Rodney Moss with the support of the Management Committee. By 1977 there were six or seven patrollers, and currently there are around 40 patrollers on the team with 13-14 rostered on each day during peak season. In 1974 the Australian Ski Patrol Association (ASPA) was formed. On the 14th March 1975, the Falls Creek Tourist Area Management Committee applied for membership to ASPA. At that time, Falls Creek Ski Patrol was known as Falls Creek Ski Rescue. From that time, Falls Creek patrollers began wearing the recommended uniform of a white cross on a red parka. These signs are significant as they are representative of the work carried out by Falls Creek Ski Patrol to keep skiers safe.A variety of signs used by Falls Creek Ski Patrol to alert tourists to conditions on the mountains in the area.A range of words and symbols including:- AREA CLOSED CAUTION MOST DIFFICULT TRAILS MERGE - CAUTION CAUTION TRAIL STEEPENS AND NARROWS AHEAD SKI AREA BOUNDARY SKI PATROL OUT OF BOUNDS / AREA NOT PATROLLED / NO ACCESS TO SKI LIFTS / PROCEED AT OWN RISKfalls creek ski patrol, skiing safety -

Glass Slide Holder, Early to mid 20th century
This box has been used to store photographic glass slides. Since the 1850s glass slides or lantern slides have been used in photography and were particularly popular from the 1870s on. They preceded photographic film and were eventually eclipsed by the 35 mm. colour slides produced by Kodachrome in the mid 20th century. Glass slides, however, were still in use up to the 1990s in some scientific areas such as astronomy because of the stability of glass ware. This container has no known local provenance and is retained for display purposes. This is a brown varnished wooden container made in a rectangular shape. It is hinged at one end with two metal hinges and has two metal clips on the sides to keep the container closed. There are also two metal clips at the top perhaps for storage purposes. The inside has a flat black painted surface top and bottom and a loose black paper in one section. ‘3’vintage photography, history of warrnambool -

After his retirement, Fred continued to share his love of steam miniature trains with the community. This locomotive, the Y166, was one of 25 general purpose diesel-electric locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Granville NSW for the Victorian Railways between 1963 and 1968. Although built to dieselise Victoria's shunting operations and replace steam locomotives on branch line services, they were also used on mainline goods and passenger services. After closure of many branch lines across the state and the end of short pick-up goods trains, use of the class dropped. The Y166 entered service on 5 June 1968. It was withdrawn from service in November 1990 and eventually scrapped in 1991.This collection has local and statewide significance as it captures images of trains, locomotives and personnel who operated the railway services in Wodonga and throughout Northeast Victoria.
