Significant in being a detailed set of instructions for the Forest City signalling system that was operated by the tram's trolley pole. Details of the locations and crossing loops where used, primarily around the loop and through Bridge St. and how it operated. Prepared and printed by the SEC during 1965.Five page, foolscap duplicated document, stapled in two locations along the top edge, titled Forest City Signals, and dated 20-1-1965, giving details about the Forest City signalling system installed in Ballarat. Explains how the system operates, gives instructions, details of the system, location of the loops, trams following each other, power failure. Also gives details of how the Bridge St system operated and the switch at Grenville St. Gives instructions for running out of the depot. Significant in being a detailed set of instructions for parking trams, hand overs, relief, responsibility for the security of the tram, including leaving the tram unattended. Regrettable incidents have happened. Issued 1965. Follows on from Reg item 261 an earlier version, but with less detailed instructions and no explanation.Two foolscap duplicated sheets titled "Special Order to Motormen (49/1)" giving instructions regarding 1) Responsibility (for trams), 2) Relief on the road, 3) Controller key, 4) Air brake handle, 5) leaving tram unattended with definition, general precautions, special precautions - such as parking the tram at Lydiard St North, parking trams at City Loop and 6) an explanation on the braking system at either end of the tram. Dated 25 January 1961. Printed from wax stencil and stapled along the top edge. Signed by F. K. White Manager. Document - Advertising Rate Card SEC, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), Late 1940's or early 1950's?
Demonstrates aspects of the method of selling advertising space inside tramcars by the SEC and gives rates.Pamphlet - folded card - giving advertising rates for Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat tramcars. Details the number of trams in each city, the rates for a standard size internal card, based on the number of cards, larger cards, half yearly and quarterly. Gives reasons why you should advertise. Has the same name, telephone number and the name "Alan Davis Pty Ltd of 149 Castlereagh St Sydney" on the card as well. Not sure of their relationship. On the front small folded section, an image of an owl and the statement "Be Wise and Advertise". Shows a view of Sturt St c1910, with two trams and horse drawn carts, shows the a busy foreground scene. Has a very poignant message on the rear about the impact of the Great War.Printed coloured postcard of the Sturt St looking west from Grenville St. Has the two ESCO trams in the photograph, two horse drawn carts, cycles and pedestrians. In the middle of the photograph is the ESCo tramway waiting shelter, constructed in 1907. Has the Suttons building and D'Albora? buildings lettered in the photograph. The red printing layer is off register. The rear of the postcard has a central vertical line, with the word "Post Card" at the top, "Printed in Germany" on the left hand side and the number "B379 10" in the bottom right hand corner. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat looking West." along top edge of the photo. On the rear of the photograph has the words in pencil "Australia" and the message "Ballarat is a city in Victoria. Mother, my two late Brothers, youngest brother and I were there in 1914, in Oct, just after the War Commenced. My second Brother and the first of the two to lose his life, enlisted when returned from Ballarat. Sturt is Ballarat's main street." Has a strong association with a tour organised by the TMSV to Ballarat Boxing Day 1985 - issued as a souvenir for the trip.Edmondson pasteboard railway ticket, No. 49, undated, printed for use on The Tramway Museum Society of Victoria visit to Ballarat and Haddon on Boxing Day, 26 December 1985. Ticket is printed in three sections, light green, fawn and light green - marked as Flinders St to Haddon and back same day. Has two red vertical stripes. Shows horse-drawn vehicles and one electric tram arriving at the terminus, late in the evening. Shows the little shed at the terminus, and buildings on either side of the Sturt St. People waiting around the tram stop. The tram seems to have a "color" light indicator above the driver. Titled "Sturt Street, Ballarat" in red ink in the top left-hand corner. On the rear of the card, has the stamp "R. M. Noy, Postcard collection", cancellation stamp of Ballarat East, 23.5.07, 1d Victorian stamp. Written to Miss Victoria Kemsey? of 225 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne, wishing her many happy returns on the day. Has the logo of WTP." in the top centre of the card. Divided back type. Set of 12 colour views of Geelong on a folded strip, glued within a colour printed cover, titled "A Souvenir of Geelong", printed on both sides of the strip. Booklet printed with an address area on rear. Produced by Nulcolorvue Productions, Mentone, Victoria. The rear has a slit on the rear cover that allowed the folder to be secured. Black and white print of bogie tram No. 22 and another single trucker at the City terminus, Sturt St, with the Town Hall in the background. A large number of passengers board and leaving the trams. Has a bus in the distance crossing Sturt St.. Tram has the destination of Sturt St. West. In the photograph are Anderson Paper Merchants, Terminus Cafe and Penfolds Wine shop. In the bottom right hand corner is an ESCo/SEC cable termination/switch box. 3217.1 - original photo ex SEC? 3217.2 - different crop - added 21/3/2021 - has more of the original image on the right side. On rear of photograph is a white dot with "5" in red ink, and in pencil "Car 22, renumbered as 37 in 1951 in order to consolidate the bogies cars from No. 34 onwards. This was the first bogie car to run in Ballarat and ran from 1945. Set of A4 photocopies of 6 years of half yearly reports of The Ballaarat Tramway Company Limited (Horse Trams) from 3/1897 to 9/1902. All reports except the last one comprise a two sheet printed or typeset report giving notice of meeting, directors report, statement of assets and liabilities, share structure and profit and loss account. The last report 9/1902 is typed, and lists assets and credits only on the profit and loss account. Meetings were held at Craig's Hotel, Lydiard St. The Directors report from 9/1900 note the forthcoming sale of the company to the British Insulated Wire Company Limited and the problems of finalising the sale. Set of 12 views of Ballarat printed with six colour photos on one side and six black and white photos on the other side, printed onto a folded strip of paper glued within an embossed paper folder. On rear cover has publisher details "A Viewpoint Scenic Production"., titled "In Scenic Colour Ballarat, Vic". Front cover has title and small sketch showing a fountain, trees and church in the background. Would appear to be a generic cover for other cities as well. Envelope made by Tudor Presseal. 2942.2 - Preprinted card - green ink titled "Last Trammail Cover", headed by TMSV's name, address and details of the TMSV, with the names of the Organisers John Fitzsimons and Bob Prentice along the lower edge. Photocopy of an article in the State Electricity Commission of Victoria Magazine, Contact, Vol 1, No. 4, Feb 1937 titled "Electricity Supply and Tramways / Reconditioning the Tramway Systems at Ballarat and Bendigo". Each item had a thin strip of paper attached by staple to the top left hand corner, giving the Vol. No. details. The item gives the background to the takeover from ESCo. Details some of the work undertaken in both Ballarat and Bendigo, including the widening of double track in McCrae St to 10' to allow ex MMTB trams to run. Work at Grenville St - City Loop, the method of track laying in Ballarat - concrete stringers, welded joints, financial arrangements for the work - employment council. Includes replacement of trolley wire. Features photos of reconditioned track on the Eaglehawk Route and a caterpillar tractor. Record revised 31/3/2019 to replace images with those from Andrew Cook CD and to include item .1 .1 - Item also was originally printed with different photographs in the Electrical Engineer and merchandiser Sept 15 1936. The item with six photographs details the history of the development of Ballarat's Power Supply. Details development of the initial power supply in Dana St, the take over by ESCo, DC power initially, expansion, introduction of AC in 1925 to Ballarat, the takeover by the SEC in 1934, changeover from DC to AC, expansion to outlying areas, Buninyong, Creswick etc. Gives description of installed plan, boilers, storerooms and the stores systems.
