1099.1 - photocopy of an article in The Courier, Ballarat Tuesday Feb. 9 1988, page 17 of the house that contained Ballarat ESCo tram No. 12 in the Tuesday Heritage Column of the newspaper. Contains a photograph of the house containing the tramcar. Newspaper Clipping details the former occupiers, the Rayner family, the construction of the extensions around the tramcar, family use, family history and some details of the family members and other local history. The copy of the newspaper Clipping has numerous pin holes in the corner and the rust marks due to use on a display on Tram No. 12 in a display board in the depot from about 1991 to 1998. Original of a Post Master's General Department (PMG), "Advice of Mails Despatched by Train" form filled in for 8/8/1969 (date and month are questionable) for the despatch of one bag of mail from Golden Square to the Bendigo Post Office at 4.15pm. the word "tram" appears above the word train . Has a number of initials or signatures. Form number PM4 or Sch. C 5021/67. Black printing on white paper except for the instruction "Examine Bags, labels, Fastenings and Seals" which is in red ink and capitals. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways fare system at the time of the one man trams, tokens which could be pre purchased by travellers and save time when boarding trams. See notes on file re these eg Reg Item 1801.Fare token- 2d - 21mm diameter - green celluloid - with "B.E.T." in large capitals on front centre of token and words "Ballarat Electric Tramways 1913" on circumference. On reverse in large font "2" and a small font "D" at top of the two - indicating token had a value of two pence. Extract from A. Bradley "The Golden City and its Tramways" about tokens and why. "The ESCo worked out its procedures from its own experience. A "pay as you enter" system was used on city-bound cars, and a "pay as you leave" system on outward-bound cars. On Sundays during busy periods this was reversed on the Gardens lines, but conductors were still required on this line to cope with the heavy summer holiday traffic. Trams 1 to 18 were altered by altering the end seating, placing gates on doorways and "pay as you enter" and "pay as you leave" signs. Once on board, passengers paid their coins into a farebox mounted behind the driver, which was fitted with glass windows and mirrors to enable the driver to see the coins slide into the box - a form of "moral check on passengers". Regular passengers could buy pink or green celluloid tokens at a discount price, to save the motorman having to issue tickets and give change." 1297 - Booklet with red heavy card cover and 24 pages inside and a four page supplement glued into rear cover giving details of the by-laws operating for the SEC tramways in Ballarat and Bendigo. Gives details of the definitions, fares and charges, sale of tickets, regulating number of passengers, stopping places, nuisances, smoking, dangerous goods, luggage and goods, general matters and fares broken into adult fares for each section and Children's fares and Pensioners' Concession fares for both Ballarat and Bendigo. Note - introduced decimal currency into the fares as well as pence. Document number on front cover "TYE 1-270". This by-law replaced or revoked all previous by-laws and amendments. Came in effect 1/10/1965 with a fare rise. Received Governor In Council approval on 24/8/1965. These fares have been amended in pencil for Ballarat. The amendment pasted into the rear of the booklet is dated 2nd August. 1966 and came into effect on 1/9/1966. 1297.1 - ditto, but actual used copy by D. J. Everett - see Reg. Yields information about the method that the State Electricity Commission of Vic undertook interviews for staff appointments. Gave advice of the era for such interviews and objectives of the interview.Thirty page book printed on heavy light brown paper, stapled with an folded card cover titled "The Automaticket Bell Punch System of Fare Collection and Control". Describes the Automaticket system, has samples of traffic tickets pasted in the book, diagrams, drawings, gives details of the components and method of operation in particular ticket inspection, ticket and checking back office functions. Published by the Bell Punch Company of London early to mid 1930's? Cover and each page headed "Confidential Information for Executives". In the rear cover of the book, folded and stapled to give a pocket, are listed three forms that would have been provided with the book - not with the collected copy. -However in the pocket were eleven 11 "Ticket Issue Machine" or "TIM" tickets - eg City of South Melbourne library fine, packing slips, sample meal tickets, Army canteen beer tickets, and sample bus tickets - including one pinned to a business card - John Bolland of Eastern Suburbs Omnibus Service who were the agents for the TIM machines. Demonstrates aspects of the SEC ticketing, governance and monitoring systems. The Pass or ticket could be issued to a SEC staff member to enable travel on the tramways while on business. Style remained very similar to the end of the tramways.SEC Provincial Tramways "Staff Ticket" No. Aa000448. Printed on heavy dark brown paper with black printing. Ticket good for single trip only, of use by employees when travelling on Commission's business. Form No. TYE-2-19. Not known when printed, possibly 1960's maybe earlier. Gives the opening and closing number of tickets or checks issued to the conductor, check returned by conductor, total number issued, value, returned by conductor, cash returned, Prepared in L (pound), shilling and pence format, or notes, silver and copper. Used in during the mid 1950's. Has space for hospital vouchers and area where signed by conductor. Printed on off white paper. Has form number TYE 1-280. Two copies held. On the rear of one sheet has written ink ticket denominations issues from 28/2/1963 to 1/1/1969 - seven different series, though first have then been crossed out. Repeat on second sheet.
