Junction Hotel Armstrong and Post Office. c1866 In 1864 Mr Neill Bruce, storekeeper of Great Western applied for a publican's license for the building photographed. It had 3 sitting rooms and 5 bedrooms. Mary Kershaw had the license from 1881. Thomas L. Barker & Co in 1890. Two story brick and attached single story weatherboard building with shingle roof. Stawell Post office built in March 1875 replacing the 1860 weather board building in the early Township of Stawell. The stucco exterior was described as modern Italian, and the building had excellent proportions. Special reference was made to the use of slate from Great Western. The foundations are of solid granite. The difference in this photograph to 85.01 would be approximately 100 years. Stawell Post Office possibly before 1880's on Corner of Wimmera and Main Street. Guests on verandah of Bellfield Hotel. Marshall White bought a licenced building from Armstrong (between Great Western & Ararat), moved it to the site of their house and, in 1924 opened it as an hotel. It remained a very popular hotel under many owners until completely gutted by fire in 1967. Currently (2011) the Grampians Motel stands on almost exactly the same site. By the clothing worn by the guest in the photo this was probably taken in the 1930's.Guest on verandah of of a long building.
