Artwork, other - Installation/Sculpture, Drop Zone, 2011
'Drop Zone', is set in an imagined future where decreasing water availability has affected us more dramatically than anyone predicted. The water shortage has become so severe that we have to access water on a first-come first-serve basis, from military-like water ‘drop zones’, like this one, made from modified rain water tanks. These tanks function on three levels: Collected rain water causes the totem sculptures to rise and bloom; evaporation causes the totem sculptures to fall; and an anemometer (device that measures wind speed) drives a process that plays the tank like a giant drum, tuned by the amount of water contained within. This artwork envisions a future for Australia where the impact of decreasing water availability has had a more dramatic effect than any of the predictions. The shortage is so severe that military-like water ‘drop zones’, constructed of modified rainfall storage tanks have been established across the public parks of the City of Yarra for access on a first come, first serve basis. However, as the water is only replenished through rain catchment the tanks may only offer infrequent relief for the City of Yarra residents, standing as hollow reminders of the effects of inaction on the shaping of sustainable national water use.'Drop Zone' was one of three public art works installed in Yarra, in 2011, under the banner of The Environmental Public Arts Project which responded to key features of Council's Environment Strategy: 'Towards Local Sustainability 2008-2020.' The aims of this project included activating public spaces in new and creative ways through the creation of artworks which act as catalysts for further engagement and discussion around environmental themes and issues.Copyright the Artists. Situated within the tanks are small totemic sculptures that float on top of the water within the tank.Accompanying plaquesustainability, water, environment, climate change -

Sculpture, Tulla Carson, Gathering - Desert Tracts and Straight Lines, 2017
Gathering is a series of contemplative sculptural objects that represent a visual continuity between the Australian landscape and the city. They embody totemic beings which hold the beliefs, values and attitudes of an individual who resides within the urban context, yet has a deep connection to place through their engagement with temporal moments and meaningful interactions. They aim to facilitate dialogue between the viewer and the viewed, seeking to re-orient an individual's perception, awareness and values surrounding the importance of fostering a connection and sense of place with the land we walk on.Wangaratta Art Gallery CollectionA contemporary sculpture made using weaving techniques to create a mesh-like linen cylinder tuft with alpaca fibre, mounted upon a limestone base.tulla carson, sculpture -

Sculpture - Public Art, The Final Siren, 2011
Anderson Hunt vividly remembers the hard-core, hard-working supporters. "I see The Final Siren as a homage to those hard-working Collingwood fans who stood in the outer and barracked their hearts out. Without the hard-core supporters, the club would be nothing. I hope the sculpture gives Collingwood fans a sense of pride; pride that’s like wearing a tight footy jumper with big numbers on the back. I feel honoured to have had the chance to create this sculpture, knowing that what was there beforehand stood for so much.”Victoria Park, the former home of the Collingwood Football Club, was transformed into a major community recreation space in 2011. Yarra City Council and the Australian Government jointly funded the $7.2 million redevelopment of the Abbotsford ground. As part of the redevelopment, Council commissioned multiple works of public art. The intention of these artworks is to recognise the park’s important history and to provide interesting and educational focal points for park. visitors. This work by Anderson Hunt is in place of the original scoreboard which was demolished on 10 February 2011. Anderson Hunt remembers going to Collingwood games as a boy and wondering how the numbers on the scoreboard appeared and disappeared. He remembers being in awe of the size of the scoreboard. “It was like a huge monolith,” he recalls. He remembers a story of how the scoreboard operator, Bob Hill, would change the scores quick as a flash when the Magpies kicked a goal.Large black and white steel sculpture inspired by the form and imagery of the ground’s former scoreboards and clocks. Sculpture, Dana Harris, 12 Apostles, 2014
12 apostles I researched daily temperatures taken from the Wangaratta aerodrome station -#82138- when it first operated in mid May 1987. This year is significant as the Wangaratta Art Gallery also opened in 1987. Noting the daily minimum and maximum temperatures, I drew a graph to show this information for each month on a plywood block forward for 12 months. On the reverse of each plywood block, I collected and drew a graph of the daily minimum and maximum from May 2014 backwards for 12 months. Using a steel nibbed pen with silver ink directly on the plywood block, the drawing relates the temperatures to the shape of the landscape. The title refers to the common usage, from the original classical Greek ‘apostolos’, meaning one who is sent away to convey messages- this one being the difference seen most acutely between the 2 faces of each plywood block separated by a quarter of a century in time.Wangaratta Art Gallery CollectionA contemporary sculpture made from plywood and silver ink that depicts graphs of weather readings, and a glass panel that displays the weather readings that corollate to the graph on the plywood panels.dana harris, sculpture, weather -

Entry into the 2009 Nillumbik Prize. Angela holds a Masters of Fine Art and has worked with clay for over 20 years. Her work is held in collections around Australia.Angela Nagel's creative practice is informed by an interest in the human condition, universal symbols, mythology and Jung's theory on the 'collective unconscious'. Her hybrid part human/animal creatures reference introduced species and indigenous Australian animals as a way for her to explore a personal mythology, and narrative, of home and environment. Recent work is developing around the relationship of ceramics to other materials such as glass, printmaking and found objects. Public Art: Ernst FRIES (b.1934 Wurzburg, Germany - arrived 1959 Aus), Surveyor of Suburban Environs, Location: Alistair Knox Park, Main Road, Eltham, 1991
'Surveyor of Suburban Environs' was one of the acquisitions from the 1991 Eltham Art Awards (now known as the Nillumbik Prize - and formally the Nillumbik Art Awards). This was the first piece acquired from this award which was suitable for a public space. Nillumbik is referred to as the "Green Wedge" and the sculpture "Surveyor of Suburban Environs" suggests a watchful observer of the surrounding landscape. The sculpture's central motif represents an eye held up on a pedestal by a tail. Its form has been likened to the Eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health personified in the goddess Wadjet or 'green one'. This likeness would suggest that the observer or surveyor has a divine status and spiritual connection to its environment. Polished stainless steel sculpture comprising an eye reminiscent of ancient egyptian hieroglyphics, which is held up with a tappered and jaggered tail like pedestal. Concrete base. Recordings made for the City of Melbourne, for incorporation with the Tilly Aston bell sculpture in Kings Domain. The first recording looks at the history of Tilly Aston and the Association for the Advancement for the Blind. Nadine Riches then talks about how she orientates herself as a person who is blind, and finally artist Anton Hassell who created the sculpture explains how sound is an important component of the sculpture and provides an explanation for the imagery on the bell.Audio file of the three soundscapes recorded for the Tilly Aston bellassociation for the blind, nadine riches, anton hasall
