They were made from 1913 and they probably weren't very expensive cameras. The Hawk-Eye No. 2 model C of 1913 was a simpler model with just one viewfinder, and no choice of aperture. This version was reissued in 1930 for Kodak's 50th anniversary: For this, the company offered a free Hawk-eye camera to any child of 12 in that year. Approximately 550,000 of these were issued.[A box camera is a simple type of camera, the most common form being a cardboard or plastic box with a lens in one end and film at the other. They were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The earliest Kodak's were simple box cameras which were sent to a local dealer after all the shots on the film inside were taken. These cameras were made in Japan by the Canon Company which dates from the 1930s. Canon cameras were, and still are very popular as they are compact and have a simple ‘point and shot’ mechanism. The kerosene lamp was one of the most common oil lamps used and was manufactured until the 1980s. This lamp appears to be a modern reproduction of an earlier optional wall-mounted kerosene lamp. The lamp has been produced as an example of a 19th and early 20th-century marine kerosene navigation lamp. Marine lamp; portside metal kerosene lamp with two flat sides, and a curved front. The front has a red ridged glass lens insert and the name "port" is inscribed on a fixed brass plaque. A round chimney is on top of the lid and it has a catch. The fuel tank and wick can be removed through the base. These eight photographs were most likely taken in the 1960s in Lithographic Squadron at the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo. Although Photo .1P is not annotated the remainder have the name of the technicians written on the back. The equipment operated by the technicians is the KLIMCH Commodore camera. The main tasks undertaken by the technicians were most likely enlargements and reductions of map reproduction material. The KLIMSCH Commodore camera was introduced in 1953 and was the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. It was replaced with a new model of the same size in 1979. The new model with its computer-based interface provided productivity gains with improved speed and its consistent results led to less wastage in time and materials. Its variomat lens system provided improved retention of map feature linear weights during the camera reduction process. The typed description pasted on the back of photo .5P states “Cpl R. MacKenzie of Bentley, Perth (WA) of the AHQ Survey Regt, located at “Fortuna”, Bendigo, (Vic). Has been in the Army for 5 years. He removes the lens cap from the 70 inch F16 lens of the giant KLIMSCH camera used in map making for the Army. The camera which was specially made for the Army in Germany is fully automatic and power operated. It is claimed to be one of the biggest automatic cameras of its type in the world. It was made to the specifications of the Aust Army Survey Corps to assist in the production of the very high standard maps for the Army. The AHQ Survey Regt also assists Commonwealth and other Govt departments in the printing of maps required other than for Army needs. The KLIMSCH camera is used for cartographic mapping photography.” This is a set of photographs of technicians operating photographic reproduction equipment at the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment, Bendigo c1960s. The photographs were printed on photographic paper and are part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection. This item and it’s associated gas mask (Cat.No. 0096.1) are of a style typical of German WW2 gas mask and connister, but the use of vinyl instead of rubber and the Spanish manufacture of the gas mask suggests post WW2 manufacture. German WW2-style tin gas mask container, with hinged lid with clip. Lid incorporate stowages for anti-fog lenses (2 in grease-proof envelope). Three loops for attaching webbing. Webbing carry straps missing. Olive green paint. Removeable cover from gas mask filter (ref: Cat.No. 0096.1) stowed loose in cannister.

The availability of low cost items was required by an ever increasing population hungering for the "do it yourself" amateur.This camera was owned by Margaret (Peg) Shefford nee Turner, who retired to Mount Beauty in the mid 1980s. The camera was purchased in 1920 and used up to the 1940's when her her daughter, Midge Clooney used it. When the Shefford family emigrated from England to Australia (1953), it was used to take photos of the ship voyage.This item is a Campfire Box Brownie. Model "F". This collection of glasses and cases was donated by Miss Connie Cruickshank. She was part of the family of Orbost's first doctor, Dr James Kerr. As the 19th Century came to a close, more and more people wore their eyeglasses everyday. A popular style of inexpensive, everyday spectacles was the pince-nez. French for "pinch nose," the pince-nez was first developed in France circa 1840 and began to be imported after the 1850s. Pince-nez have no temples, but are fit snugly on the bridge of the nose. Pince- nez could be uncomfortable to wear and broke often from falling off the nose. These items demonstrate how glasses' styles have changed over time. The donor received the projector from a relative. He used it in the City of Whitehorse and surrounding areasWaterworth Slide Film Strip Projector, Model A - 300 watt, without a fan but with ventilating slots on top and an open bottom for air to flow. It has a carrying handle and a power lead with 3 pin plug which is wired in permanently. The projector lamp is at rear under the carrying handle. Image is projected through three stage lens via via the image on the 35mm strip or slide. The front lens is adjustable for focus. A knurled nut enables a height adjustment at front. Slides are inserted through the holder - whilst one slide is shown the other can be loaded ready to be slid in front of the light. The film strip holder is missing. The unit is finished in a grey hammer finish paint used in 1960 t0 1980s. The operating instructions are filed in the supplementary envelope. Donor used camera regularly until recent years.'Etue' folding camera with accessories (camera, case, 3 negative containers in a imitation leather & cardboard container) and an additional slide tray. Camera can be used with glass plates, cut negative film and film packs. When camera is opened the lens, bellows etc slide into position. The whole lot slides on a rail system and can be locked in the position required. Item to be photographed can be viewed in a viewfinder which can be turned to a horizontal or vertical plane. In the viewfinder has a small bubble level.
