Photograph, 9 Minifie Avenue, Anglesea, c.1949
John Ingram, baker of Research and his wife Ada (nee Key) owned a holiday house at 9 Minifie Avenue, Anglesea. At some time between 1943 and 1949 they relocated permanently to Anglesea. It is difficult to make out the car (registration 155-405). It appears to be a roadster style with wooden spoke wheels and spare wheel mounted on boot. Typical of a 1928 Dodge roadster. The woman standing in front of the fence in a swimming suit, holding a towel and wearing a coat is unidentified. The house is named 'Glenair'.9 minifie avenue, anglesea, house, ada ingram (nee key), 155-405 (victorian registration), car, john ingram, glenair, ingram family, pam thoonen (nee ingram) collection -

Melbourne Legacy
Newspaper - Article, A touch of class, 1977
An article about Ivanhoe Grammar School students who were involved in the school's 'activities week' where the student undertook community service. Legacy found six houses in need of painting and 66 boys were given the task. The Legacy widow, Mrs Drowley of Fairfield appreciated their work and provided tea and scones. Otherwise it was at no cost to her. Pictured were Neil Gaule, Matt Campbell, Con Markidis, Neil Jordan, Peter Augustes and Bruce Permezel. The article was cut from the newspaper and pasted into a scrapbook. For many years Legacy kept scrapbooks of press clippings that related to their work and publicity. Not all pages have been listed individually but some are listed from 02164 to 02176.A record of the types of services that Legacy helped arrange for the widows and which were published in the press in 1977.Newspaper article in the 'Heidelberger' newspaper about boys painting a Legacy widow's house in 1977 pasted to brown page of a scrapbook.Stamped '24 Aug 1977' in purple ink.widows, painters, ivanhoe grammar -

Rose Series post card #182Copy of Rose Series postcard #182 showing Kalorama Gap in 1913. Haystacks in foreground with Mountjoy Guest House and Beulah Tea Rooms/Mt Dandenong North Post Office in centre. This photograph has a detailed inscription on the back handwritten by John Lundy-Clarke in 1974.Kalorama Gap in 1913 The elm trees are in the centre of the picture. One of these is really two as two suckers of the further tree were twisted together by Fred Jeeves in 1898 and grew as one tree. The other was planted in 1880. The shop is the shop of Mrs Eliza Hand and daughter Florence. The closed in far end of the verandah was the Mount Dandenong North Post Office. The large house is “Mountjoy” owned and run by the Jeeves Family from 1908 till 1943. It was built in 1905 by the Paynters who sold to Ellis Jeeves in 1908.He moved his line of coaches from “Kalorama” his old homestead and housed the horses in a line of stables behind “Mountjoy”. Price’s house, which contained their shop, the first one on the mountain, opened 1906, can be seen faintly behind the pine tree opposite the bend in the road, which was the main road then and now is Ridge Road. The Price’s house just shows in two tiny pieces, one on each side of the pine tree half way up. The house to the right of and high up the pine tree is Walker’s cottage which exists today opposite Jack Kidd’s home at the far edge of Lt 2 Village Settlement and was between Main Road and Barbers Road which runs down the left behind the elms. Walker’s homestead can be seen near left edge of picture 2/3 way up. The roof of the Methodist Church shows among trees left of picture. This, like Mrs Hand’s shop was built on portions separated from Isaac Jeeves’ Selection “C” known as Jeeves Saddle. kalorama gap, five ways, mountjoy, john lundy-clarke, beulah tea rooms, post office, fred jeeves, paynter, jeeves, frederick jeeves, price, walker, jack kidd -

Document - Photocopy of Churchill Island Visitors' Book 1881 - 1902, 12/08/2015
Churchill Island Heritage Farm has a long and interesting history. From 1872, Samuel Amess was the primary owner of Churchill Island, having purchased it from the Rogers family. During his time on the Island, he built the main house and developed the surrounding land and gardens significantly as a holiday house away from the pollution of Melbourne. This photocopy of the original visitor's book (whose location is unknown) provides a valuable insight into the visitors who were regularly hosted at Churchill Island by the Amess family.Photocopy of 92 page document of the 1881 - 1902 Churchill Island Visitors' book containing handwritten entries from people who stayed at the Island during the time of Samuel Amess and his son (also named Samuel). Album - Album page, Paynswicke, Gladstone Pde & Hartington St, Circa 1972
This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. House is commonly spelt as "Payneswicke".From: Glen Eira Heritage Management Plan (1996) by Andrew Ward and Associates "Payneswicke" is locally significant as a prominent and substantially intact villa of its period, distinguished by its cast cement enrichment, unpainted stuccoed surfaces and commanding aspect to the south-west. Its role for a period as home for local builder, Patrick Millane (compare no. 11 Gladstone Parade) is of interest. In 1889, a nine roomed brick house was in the course of erection on the site. The house was completed in 1890 and Millane took up residence. Millane continued as owner/ occupant in 1894. However, in 1899, although Millane still occupied the house, ownership had been taken over by the Land Mortgage Bank. By 1910, Andrew Brown was occupant. Occupancy passed to Edward Brown by 1920 and to Miss A.N. Brown by 1930. Miss Brown continued to live there in 1941.Page 50 of Photograph Album with three exterior photographs (2 landscape and 1 portrait) of Paynswicke, a double storey house.Hand written: No 13 [top right] / "Paynswicke" N.E. cnr Gladstone Pd & Hartington St [top right] / 8 Oct 1966 [under top left photo] / 50 [bottom right] trevor hart, 1880's, 1890's, payneswicke, patrick millane, gladstone parade, unpainted stuccoed surfaces, cast cement enrichment, hartington street, villa residence, italianate, elsternwick, victorian, mansion, cast iron verandahs, return verandahs, curved windows, full length windows, land mortgage bank, andrew brown, edward brown, a n brown, paynswicke -

The vacant land was the site of Norman Carter's future home at 21 Everton Grove. Norman Broadley Carter (1899-1984) married Mabel Annie Moore in 1927. Norman was an engineer with a passion for photography. Norman took many photos of Surrey Hills and Mont Albert from the 1920s and particularly of events and activities of the Church of England. For many years the house on the left located at 14 Harding Street belonged to the Kenneth Rothwell Culliton and his wife (Fanny) Molly Culliton. The house is located next to the Harding Street Reserve. Ken was an engineer and Molly was an early member of the Surrey Hills Historical Society. Ken was born and died in Surrey Hills. His father Harry Culliton was a well known golfer. His mother Christina Mary Rothwell was the daughter of Thomas Talbot Rothwell, known as a tea merchant and importer; also lived in Surrey Hills.
