The campaign to save the Yarra Valley from powerlines was a significant environmental campaign in multiple suburbs in the 1980s.White tee-shirt with an image of a man being electrocuted which was produced and sold to raise funds for the campaign to save the Yarra Valley from a proposal to build a massive power line between Richmond and Brunswick. The black and white cartoon printed on the front of the tee-shirt is a cartoon by Jeff. In 1996, the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, instead of World Health Organisation Guidelines introduced in 1983, were introduced. The Australian guidelines allowed for some flexibility and the Upper Kiewa Community Consultative Committee supported a package proposal that included Ultra Violet/Ozone treatment. The debate was a rejection of chlorination by a public meeting in Mt Beauty in Feb. 1997.Mt Beauty residents were asked about the treatment of their drinking water at a public meeting and by an Information Questionnaire. North East Region Water Authority was involved - the debate is an example of community consultation, drinking water standards and the input of the authorities that were involved.Papers re introducing the chlorination of the water in Mt Beauty in 1997-1998. This is an illustrated booklet which presents a concept proposal for 'The Flying Dogtor' television programme - described as a new kind of comic strip for television, with animal characters from the Australian bush. The hero is the great Dogtor Dane and the crafty villain is Carson Carpetbag. Two child psychologists were consulted. Last year (1990) the centre made its first profit since it opened 10 years ago, but it incurred deficits for 2 financial years before that. The council said there was no proposal to sell the centre and stressed it intended to retain full control irrespective of any management restructuring that may result from the study. -

On the 18th August, 1896, the question of selecting localities for the permanent survey of a narrow-gauge line to Beech Forest from Colac was mooted. Two potential lines were examined. In a memorandum to the Minister for Railways, dated 23rd March, 1897, the Engineer-in-Chief recommended that the eastern and longer route via Lardner's Track be adopted. The second route, while identical from Colac to Gellibrand River, differed. By a more direct route the Beech Forest terminus is reached 5 miles sooner and cost approximately L24,500 less. The direct line would also serve a larger lot of settlers and would obtain a larger lot of traffic than the alternate proposal. The Parlimentary Standing Committee on Railways examined the proposal in situ and recommended that the direct route from Gellibrand to Beech Forest should be adopted and the Lardner's Track route should be abandoned at once.Photograph, Railway Survey Camp, 4 April 1897. Sir Harold Winthrop Clapp KBE (7 May 1875 – 21 October 1952) was a transport administrator who over the course of thirty years had a profound effect on Australia's railway network. In two decades as its Chairman of Commissioners, he revolutionised Victorian Railways, with unprecedented attention to customer service and innovations such as more powerful locomotives, air-conditioned carriages, and faster services culminating in the introduction of the flagship Spirit of Progress express train. Seconded to the Federal Government in World War II, he played a pivotal role in the manufacture of fighter aircraft in the defence of Australia. As Director-General of Australia's Land Transport Board, he presented a report on railway gauge standardisation that ultimately led to the eventual linking of all Australian mainland capital cities by a uniform rail gauge.
