1890.1 - Black and white copy photograph of a damaged photograph of a ESCo Bendigo tramcar at Charing Cross, Bendigo, c1905. Original photograph has been damaged - mounted onto a sheet of card, with "WHO. Robinson - Photo - Bendigo" printed onto the sheet. Tram photographed side on, has not been fitted with windscreens. has a "Silver Star Starch" roof advertisement and has "Bendigo Tramways" painted onto the side of the tramcar. In the background of the photograph are buildings in Gardens area that front View St. Also the Shamrock hotel can be seen in the distance. 1890.1 - copy of same photograph but with a better reproduction and repair of the print. 1890.3 - Electronic copy of same photograph donated by Ron Hann on a CD of photographs given to him at the time of his visit in January 1963 by the Manager. Decorated with Red, White and Blue cloth on front and sides of cars and over windows and other Royal motifs. Badge - ESCo 1908 pass, Stokes & Sons Melbourne, 1906
Yields information about a system of tram passes that were provided to the City of Ballarat Councillors in 1960 and has a strong association with the Councillors himself.Stamped brass badge or pass for free travel on the Ballarat Tramways for the year 1906. Stamped to give the words "Ballarat Electric Trams 1906" on the outer edge of the Badge and then stamped out to give the letters 'B E T" on the inside of the badge. On the top of the badge, a hole has been provided and a steel ring fitted. On the rear of the badge has the letters "CR. D. Hughes" stamped on the top of the badge and on the bottom the manufacturer's name "Stokes" in a reverse stamp. Indicates badge issued to Councillor D. Hughes for the year 1906. A similar badge was sold on ebay for $US 49.95 December 2007 - paperwork on file. Images on file - images i3 and i4. Was issued to Councillor C. R. Brokenshire. E-mail from Alan Bradley, re additional item 29/1/2012 - See Reg Item - The Electric Supply Co issued the passes to councillors of the City of Ballaarat for free tram rides. I don't know whether passes also went to Ballarat East and Sebastopol councillors as well. In Bill Scott's "Last tram at 11" on page 41 is a 1912 poem 'The councillor's farewell to his tramway pass". The ESCo tried a few economy measures at that time. Passes for councillors were withdrawn in 1912, as were free passes for employees "owing to our financial position". Employees were still allowed on free in uniform, but charged one-third of fare when off duty. In 1913 one-man operation came in." For another example see Reg item 5239. SEC Provincial Tramways "Staff Ticket" No. Aa002550. Printed on heavy dark grey paper with black printing. Ticket good for single trip only, of use by employees when travelling on Commission's business. Form No. TYE-2-19. Not known when printed, possibly 1960's maybe earlier. The 2nd last ticket to be issued by the conductor of the last SEC operated tram (see Reg Item 3264 for the last ticket) in Ballarat. Issued to Les Denmead by Lew Walker and marked on rear as such. Collected by the tramway Superintendent.Single SEC 16c ticket - yellow ink on off white paper, denomination 16c, lettered A521544, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. On rear in yellow ink is a SEC advertisement "ELECTRICITY makes life easier" with the SEC's little boy wrapped in a towel logo. The ticket number is in black ink. On rear in black ink are words "2nd last ticket issued on Ballarat Tramways Sept 19, 1971. To Les from Lew. Conductor on last tram No. 40, Conductor L. Walker 54". Set of six uniform clothing or shirt buttons or studs. Made from stainless steel, buttons have a flat face, about 14mm wide, with a rounded stud on the rear about 7mm diameter. B&W postcard of an ESCo tram at the east end of Sturt St. Ballarat, with the Grenville St. shelter in the background. Shows buildings along both sides of Sturt St. Has a few pedestrians in the photo and some horse drawn vehicles in the background. Tram in style with destination box/lights at back of drivers canopy. Has title "Sturt Street - looking West, Ballarat" in top left hand corner. On rear "H.J. Summerscales, next Post Office, Ballarat - Printed in Germany" on left hand edge vertically. Post card dated 29/12/10 (1910), from E.H. Colson? at 49 Webster St. wishing the recipient a happy new year. Recipient - Mr. A. Steer, Glen Eira Rd. Elsternwick. Tram has destination of Gardens via Sturt St. West, Twin Lakes advertisement on the front. In the background is Meagher's Hotel with Abbots Lager and Victoria Bitter sign. On the bridge is graffiti "Smash US Imperialism". On the Ballarat side of the bridge is a sign directing travellers to the "Eureka Caravan Park".
