The minutes cover a range of routine meeting items, as well as the postponed release of the Princes Park Master Plans and the proposed construction of car parks at Caulfield Racecourse. 2/A copy of Glen Eira Residents’ Association Inc.’s 30/05/2003 newsletter, notifying members of matters presently before Glen Eira City Council for purposes of evaluation. Matters include an admonishment to the Council to sort out anomalies between the C25 Amendment (80/20 Plan) and the Melbourne 2030 Plan, the success at convincing the Ministerial panel to adopt GERA’s views regarding the C14 Council Plan for the Caulfield Racecourse, a request for information from the Council regarding the previous year’s rate increase, a request for information from the Council regarding spending on planning for improvements to Princes Park, a call for the Council to improve its consultative procedures, a recommendation that the purpose of Glen Eira News be expanded to the making of suggestions for city improvement, and a notification of the measures implemented to improve the visibility of Caulfield Racecourse’s usability by the public. Front cover details agenda and contains four colour photographs pertaining to public transport (buses, trams, trains) within the city. Interior features president Don Dunstan reflecting on issues relevant to GERA occurring over the preceding twelve months, with an emphasis on the dubious behaviour of the City Council, as well as two colour photographs: one of Dunstan himself and one of traffic at Elsternwick Junction. The rear cover contains the Financial Statement presented to the Meeting. 6Two copies of a printout of an article from the website of Glen Eira Residents’ Association Inc., accessed 19/06/2012, explaining the affects wrought as a result of the implementation of Planning Scheme Amendment C87. Said amendment changes the Planning Scheme protecting neighbourhood character by replacing the previous Significant Character Area (SCA) designation with the new designations of Neighbourhood Character Overlay (NCO) and Design and Development Overlay (DDO). In developing the Amendment, Glen Eira City Council commissioned Planisphere to procure the Planisphere Final Report, in which recommendations regarding the expansion, creation and deletion of SCAs were offered. This file contains two items pertaining to the property housing the Caulfield RSL: 1/A photocopy (2 pages) of an assessment of the property, dated 01/1997, by Andrew Ward, for purposes of ascertaining its historical significance. The assessment describes the architectural features of the property, offers a brief history of it, specifies why it should be considered significant, and recommends that it be added to the National Estate Register. Included is a black-and-white photograph of the exterior of the building. 2/An assessment (17 long pages plus appendix) of the car parking issues procured as a result of the decision to refurbish the Caulfield RSL. Prepared by Grogan Richards Pty Ltd, dated 13/11/2002, reviewed by Joanna Gauetty, and authorised by Rody Jude. The name "Metamec" is derived from "metal-work and mechanics". The company started as an offshoot of the furniture manufacturers Jentique in about 1941, which made boxes for instruments and bombs during World War II.The first Metamec model was a mains-powered mantle clock numbered "701" (approx. 1947). All clocks produced by Metamec were produced to a high standard, The company declined in the late 1980s and went into receivership in December 1984 and sold to FKI of Halifax, West Yorkshire, who continued to use the name until 1993. Misell assigned his invention over to the American Electrical Novelty and Manufacturing Company owned by Conrad Hubert. In 1905, Hubert changed the name again to The American Ever Ready Company, selling torches / flashlights and batteries under the trademark Ever Ready. In 1906 the British Ever Ready Electrical Company was formed for export of batteries; it became independent in 1914. The American Ever Ready Company became part of National Carbon Company in 1914. The trademark was shortened to Eveready. In 1986, Union Carbide sold its Battery Products Division to Ralston Purina Company becoming the Eveready Battery Company, Inc. and in 1992, it bought the British Ever Ready Electrical Company. Prior to March 1, 1980, the company's alkaline battery had been called the Eveready Alkaline Battery (1959–1968), Eveready Alkaline Energizer (1968–1974) and Eveready Alkaline Power Cell (1974–February 29, 1980).
