Globe Hotel, High St Charlton, established 1874 by John Walsh. This is the third building on the site. The first was destroyed by fire and rebuilt. It was then rebuilt as a two-storey hotel in 1940. It closed as a hotel in the early 1970's and became offices and flats. The Charlton Gentlemen's Club on the RH side was established in 1900. The bridal coat was part of a wedding ensemble worn by Peg Young in 1939. The final two images in the carousel include a wedding photograph of Peg and her husband. A letter accompanying the donation on file describes the outfit as: "Rosemary [Peg] looked very nice indeed in a simple white satin dress that made her look very tall and slim. It had trimming round the neck, down the front and on the shoulders that looked like quilting, with a little gold in it, and she wore gold slippers and a lovely lace veil, lent by Auntie Nellie. She carried a large sheaf of bright red roses." Mrs Peg Young, a Kew resident was at one stage President of the Children's Book Council of Australia. She was also a member of the Kew Historical Society. The coat was donated by her daughter, Mrs Helen Tutt.Floor-length satin bridal coat with a buttoned full length opening at the front extending the length of the garment. The front of the coat is hand-quilted in an abstract design of arabesques. The buttons are covered with the same satin fabric as the coat. One of seven photographs produced by the Portland Cement Association in 1921 showing how concrete kerbs could be created. Portland Cement Association (PCA) was founded in 1916. From 1917, the association actively promoted the benefits of concrete for road works in Australian newspapers. In the nineteenth century in Melbourne (Vic.) 'made roads' typically had gutters and kerbing lined with bluestone.The photographs are important evidence of the availability of instructional models for the use of concrete in street works in Victoria. While the photographs date from the early 1920s, the use of concrete for kerbing did not reach its maturity until after World War 2. A start on the construction of Bogong Creek race line was made at the commencement of winter in 1948. Work proceeded in the following years when work on the High Plains was not practicable. In January, 1951 the special trimming machine, the special slip form and concrete mixing and placing equipment was put into service. A shortage of cement caused some delays as well as a sudden financial recession. The race line was completed and put into service in 1952.An historical record showing the machinery used during this time, the number of workers and supervisors involved and the mountainous terrain where they worked. It also demonstrates the OH&S of the period with workers mostly in street clothing with no hard hats or other safety equipment. This is a coat hanger made in Germany for the Warrnambool firm of Cramond and Dickson. John Cramond and James Dickson opened a general store in Warrnambool in 1856, selling men’s and women’s clothing, drapery and manchester and it had its own tailoring and millinery business. This store became a prominent one in Warrnambool for over 100 years, closing in 1973. The business operated for most of this time at the corner of Timor and Liebig Streets. This coat hanger is of great interest as a memento of the business of Cramond and Dickson, one of the most important businesses in Warrnambool’s history.This is a wooden coat hanger with a metal hook inserted in the centre of the hanger. The wood has been smoothed and stained to a light brown colour. The wood is curved and the ends are slightly tapered. The hook has a round stud at the bottom to prevent the hook from coming out of the hole. The hook is somewhat rusted.
