Not recognising it as one already held, Martha Valentine purchased the card from eBay and donated it to the collection.Early black and white photograph of Rutherglen Park, printed on a postcard. Clothing - Port Melbourne Scouts, The Scout Shop, 1955 - 1956
When the donor first joined the Scouts the uniform was blue. It was then discovered that they weren't Sea Scouts and the uniform was changed to khaki. The donor was on duty as a scout at the Melbourne Olympic games and attended the Scout Jamboree at Clifford Park before the Olympics. He wore the shirt and one of the scarves at the 1956 Olympic games in Melbourne. ''Renny Hill'', built c1876, was the home of William Andrew Taylor (1849-1927) and Isabella Park Taylor, nee Dawson (1842-1929). Isabella was a friend to First Nations people and together with her father, James Dawson, recorded their languages and customs. William Taylor was a farmer, Councillor and civic leader. The photograph was taken when children from the Bulla primary School went on a school excursion to Werribee Park Mansion and Open Range Zoo. After doing a tour of the mansion the children stopped along the path to do some exercises together before moving on to the zoo. The excursion was part of their environmental and nature studies. The excursion to Werribee to the mansion and the zoo was included into the children's environmental and history studies. Arthur Henry Miers, pictured back row left in the photograph played for cricket, football and baseball teams in Kew for a number of decades in the first half of the twentieth century. He was born on 22 November 1901, the son of Rodolph Theophilus Miers (1874-1951) and Margaret Frances (Margaretta) Fry (1875-1958). He had two brothers, Rodolph Cecil Miers (1904-80) and Charles Wilfred Miers (1906-88), and a sister Marjorie Elizabeth Miers (1911-84). Tally Ho Business Park was developed by Land Lease, commencing in 1988, and then CGA Bryson from the late 1990's. It was completed in 2002. The land on which it stands was previously the site of the Tally Ho Boys Home. This home was run, from 1903-1986 by the Wesley Central Mission, which caters for boys from the slums.
