St Peter's Church was established in 1861 in the school house. In 1864 the question of building a church was seriously discussed. A foundation stone for the church was laid on 16 November 1864 by Bendan S. Hassell. The architect was Charles Davenport Cuthbert; the trustees were Somerville Learmonth, W.P. Whitcombe, Robert Wynne and J.B. McQuie. The church building committee consisted of Horace walker, J.S. Carver, John M. Fisher, Robert Williams, Thomas Gibson, John E. Hodgson and W. Lindisay Richardson. The foundation stone of the Soldier's Chapel was laid on 06 April 1917. The beautiful stained glass in the chapel was donated by Mrs W. Tunbridge and H.C. Curwen-Walker, in memory of their sons who were killed during World War One. In 1929 a new three manual organ by London's Hill, Norman and Beard was installed. It was the first in Ballarat with electro-pneumatic action.White soft covered booklet outlining the first 100 years of St Peter's Anglican Church, Ballarat. This church was built in 1907 and became known as Holy Trinity Surrey Hills. This name had previously been used by the Anglican Church in Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert. This henceforth became known as St George's Anglican Church, Mont Albert. There are 2 copies: the original donated print and an enlargement. The original is mounted on card with photo mounts along with 890, 891 and 892. It measures 13 cm x 9 cm. Norman Carter took many photos of Surrey Hills and Mont Albert from the 1920s in particular of events and activities associated with the Church of England.Black and white photo of the original Holy Trinity Church building in Union Road. It is constructed of weatherboards, above which there is plasterboard and timber strapping. The roof is of terracotta tiles with a small steeple at the front and a larger one towards the rear of the building. There is a box bay window at the front and the entrance is from a porch on the southern side of the building. This is approached by stairs. Part of the vicarage can be seen on the northern high side of the church and to the south there is vacant land. The whole property sits behind a simple post and wire fence. There is a phaeton in the foreground beside a relatively newly planted street tree. Christ Church Anglican Church was one of the early churches in Warrnambool.The Puzzle Picture Book is a rare 'movable' children's book from 1900. It contains 6 chromolithic dissolving scenes (also called slats/transformations). It is unusual due to its educational content. It was published by Ernest Nister in London, E F Dutton & Co in USA and is also thought to have been published in German under the title 'Ueberraschungen Aller Art'. The site on the corner of Thompson Avenue and Church Street, Cowes was reserved on the 12th April 1869 and the church was erected by the end of the year. Financed by the Island Church of England people. Dean McCartney preached the first sermon and performed the dedication service on 30th January 1870. Prior to this time services were held at the McHaffie homestead, Ventnor. Mrs S D (Georgianna) McHaffie, wife of the first European settlers, wrote in her diary "30th January 1870. Drove to Cowes, opened the Church, fine day". the large Bible presented by her is on loan and displayed in the Museum of the Phillip Island & District Historical Society.The timber Anglican Church of St Philips was built by Alex McLardy Sen. in 1869. It is still situated in Thompson Avenue on the corner of Church Street. The Vestry was added by Mr Alex McLardy in 1903 at the cost of 21 pounds. The Anglican Church at Kiewa. The first stone was laid on the 29th Oct. 1924. In 1879, the Yackandandah rector commenced services on Sundays in private homes in the Kiewa Valley. In 1911 Anglicans met in the Kiewa Methodist Church to elect a committee to organise financial offers and so it eventually became a vestry.The town Kiewa is in the Kiewa Valley. The church served other communities in the Valley. The book records the local populations and their commitment to religion. Courthouse built in Port Melbourne of similar vintage to Eltham's courthouse (1860). 1865 Couthouse in Port Melbourne converted into a restaurant. The courthouse was originally designed by architect John J. Clark. Since its days as a courthouse and adjacent holding cells, it's been occupied as government offices, an Anglican church, a plant nursery and a restaurant. The building had become fairly run-down with some inappropraite changes according to David Wagner of Atelier Wagner, who in conjunction with partner Jacqui Wagner worked with present owners toi breathe new life intoi the building. The photograph of St Mary's Anglican Church at Bulla was taken before the completion of the airport at Tullamarine. Originally the church occupied a site on Oaklands Road near the Old Bulla Road. St Mary's Anglican Church was originally built on land in Oaklands Road. It was licensed in 1859 by Bishop Perry, the first Anglican bishop of Melbourne. The magazine was edited by Reverand R.C. Nugent Kelly as an Anglican Church publication. Reverend Kelly: Born in 1858 to Robert George and Mary Kelly (nee. Walker) of Birkenhead, England. Married Emma Louisa Edith Cremer in 1882 in England Died 11 Oct 1936 in Hornsby Shire, New South Wales, Australia Kelly joined All Saints Bendigo in 1896 where he edited the 'Our Own Magazine' and established a reputation for effective financial management. He left Bendigo in 1901. Much of his life was spent dedicated to church work which was documented as early as 1890. Now known as Old All Saints Cathedral, the church is located on the Northern corner of Mackenzie Street and Forest Street. The church was closed in 2015 and has remained abandoned. The church is located across the street from Bendigo Historical Society on Mackenzie Street. The Lambeth Conference: "The first Lambeth Conference took place in 1867 when the Archbishop of Canterbury, Charles Thomas Longley, invited the bishops of what would become the Anglican Communion to gather for a conference at Lambeth Palace.... There were two main issues that led to this invitation: First, a growing desire, expressed by many bishops around the world, to gather in order to pray, to study scripture and to confer together and, second, to address difficult pastoral and theological issues that were causing divisions between bishops around the world. These issues related to how the Christian gospel was and should be expressed in different cultures... Over successive Lambeth Conferences the mind of the bishops was expressed through published resolutions. These resolutions have touched on every area of the life and mission of the church... It has encouraged and enabled significant decisions to be made by the member churches" The 1897 conference resulted in 62 resolutions including the desire and establishment of regular conferences every ten years.1 October 1897 Edition of 'Our Own Magazine: A Church Monthly for the People'. The front cover contains the phrasing "registered as a newspaper" directly under the 'O' of "Our" though has been categorised as a magazine. Printed in black and white, the 10 page (not including covers) contains several advertisements for local Bendigo businesses. The cover showcases a hand drawn image of a robed man holding a ribbon "For God and His Church". The back cover shows a large black and white image of Enterprise Baking Powder. Other images include logos for local business and an ornate header on the front page. There are also ornate drop caps throughout the publication. The magazine includes articles pertaining to The Pope, the Lambeth Conference, Alexander Mackay of Uganda, the death of W. Walsham How (Bishop of Wakefield, C of E), the establishment of a press committee by the Anglican church, summaries of important sermons, mission notes, Parish news, baptisms, marriages and deaths. Centre fold and stapled together, each page is presented in a two-column layout. There is only one staple in the spine. Some pages extend past the edge of the cover.
